The Soundgear Club

I was going through some old boxes in the garage and came across an old Ibanez catalog from 2008(!)

I was flipping through it and saw this stunning SRX bass! I already have a white SRX2EX2 and love it but I really need this one!! Might be hard to find tho… Anyone have this bass and how do you like it??:D:hyper:View attachment 5015964

I couldn't find any of those for you, but I did find this one. Wish I had the money for it!

Hi folks
I'm a big soundgear fan. I own 2 sr800's one is a 1991 Japan bought new in 91. It now has a set of GZR pickups in it due to it taking to long to get a tone pot from Ibanez. The other is a 94 sr800 bought new. I have a 2004 sr900 with barts and an sr 2600 bought in 2021 with Nordstrands.

I'm considering another purchase but can't decide on a bass with T1, barts, aguilar or nords. I love the nords and the barts. I have not played aguilar or the newer t1's. Unfortunately most local shops don't carry the higher end Ibanez bases. What's yall's opinion?

Missed it...
......because I bought it! I waited 5 hours and it didn't sell, so I convinced myself I needed it :roflmao:

So here are some of my thoughts on this Ibanez SR2505M Prestige vs my other Ibanez basses.

The 2505M CAP pickups basically blow away the Nordstrand big single and big splits in my EHB1506MS / EHB1505/ SR1346B. The tone is so much more clear and crisp from the CAP pickups. Vs my ANB205 they also sound great, however, I prefer the Bartolinis in the ANB205 as the barts have a much more open and airy/punchy sound to them.

Regarding playability, the 2505M feels great and is pretty light weight. The neck is super fast and very thin, and since Ibanez is known for their great necks, that's no shocker.

The fit and finish is excellent, but I'd say it's no better than anything coming out of the premium line from Indonesia. My ATK 810E, 805, SR1346B and ANB205 are all VERY similar in quality/ fit and finish vs the 2505M.

Overall I'd say the SR2505M is an excellent bass and the CAP pickups are far ahead of the Nordstrands they currently offer on most of their premium models. I don't know why they don't use the CAP pickups anymore....they are seriously great.

The ANB205, HOWEVER, has got me spoiled with its slightly thicker neck (it's soooo good) 24 frets, and the crazy good bartolini pickups and preamp. The action on the ANB205 is also out of this world.

My problem is I can't get along with the thickness of the ANB205 and the matte finish. Love the 18mm spacing and it's great sounding and looking but I'll probably be moving mine along if anyone has any interest. I really wish that 2505 was 18mm.
