Nice! that's exactly what I was expecting, I'm guessing the 700 is brighter due to the mahogany body (?) And btw how come almost all SR basses (500 to 900) have the same Eq and pickups? I mean... Do they all sound so different from each other? I have always loved ibanez for its playability and weight but now that you mention wooly tones I'm thinking of getting it sooner!

^ You won't hear any difference because of the type of body wood used. My SR600 sounds identical to an SR500 or SR700. The only detectable difference is the addition of the mid-freq switch added in 2010 to the SR line on the 500 thru 700 series. String type will change the tone the most - I use D'Add Prosteels to really pull out the Ibanez sound.

Call me crazy, but I do hear a difference between my 605 and 505. The 505 sounds more aggressive, with grunting lows and in your face mids. And in the mix it tends to stand out quite a bit.

I come from musicman basses, since they trend to cut straight thru the mix, should I be worrying about strings rather than woods? I'm a flat wound die hard fan, I guess I'll put some rounds I'm for a change, any suggestions? I liked elixirs but they used to die in a week or so (for me)

Count me in. I just bought a used SR505. love it!
I used to own an SR805 (or was it 885? don't remember)
Anyway I like this one better. Better bridge and pickups. Mine was made in Korea with no mid toggle. (doesn't need it IMO) Cleaned it up, slapped some D'addario XL's on it. Tweaked the setup. Ready to go! Nice Growl out of that bridge pickup. Love the 34 scale and the narrow spacing and thin neck. Plays easy, sounds great.

^ Yes, you get a lot of bass with a 3band EQ for the money with an SR300; a best buy.

The SR756 is really nice. It's been a while since I've had a 6, and dealing with the strings is more challenging than I remembered. The bass plays well and sounds great though. It looks really nice as well. Not much else to report really. The SR75x series is a great choice for folks wanting a modern tone.

Mine is a 700 but the description fits - same Bartolini electronics. It has a rich, full, mellow, dark tone with bright, glassy highs sitting on top of that. In a quiet setting it's a gorgeous tone. When you get in volume, the subtleties of the tone completely disappear and it becomes a generic, deep sound on the neck pickup and a growly, burpy sound on the treble pickup.
I also found it surprisingly good with a pick. It will get crazy bright if you want it to and fit in places where a Rick would go.
