I just checked it out, and the thread began during 2010, but has only 27 pages, though I do see a couple of familiar faces there.

OTOH, the Mustang club thread [where I also already participate] began during 2018, and has 182 pages.

Anyway, I think that both of those models only come in 14mm.

Before I began to shop for lighter [leading to short scale] basses, I was looking at tuners to reduce my Ric's weight [and 46 years of neck dive], and it takes 17mm, like many/most full scale Fenders.

I could find Hipshot Ultralites in both 14 and 17mm, however not Res-o-lites.

But I never followed though.

When I swapped some Hipshot Ultralites for Sperzels, I ran into a similar problem. The answer I came up with was to search for plastic sleeve bearings of nearly the same size and then adjust to fit. The sleeves are similar weight to the wood, so they don't add to the headstock weight. I found these which may work for your Ric.

If you think the ID does not make tight enough contact between the OD of the tuner and ID of the bushing, you can wrap a little tape on there, or a simple piece of paper. The contact does not need to be firm, a light slip fit will be fine.

For my project, the OD and ID of the bushings were a bit big, so I cut a slot through each bushing (making it like a tight C-shape) then widened the slot until fitting it in the hole made the ID small enough to snugly fit the tuners. Not surprising, right? Who would have thought, "I'm going to search for an M2B2 thread!" But search for a Fender Mustang Club? Yep. Gotta name your clubs what people are going to look for.

No,I did go to lots of TOP concerts in the SF Bay area,I Got to meet Rocco Prestia on stage after a concert at the alameda county Fair in Pleasanton once. I lived there for 30 years .He was so nice .I love David and Rocco.They both had a big influence on my drumming and Bass playing.David I think still lives in the area.Not sure .I know he was teaching drums for awhile.And recovering from being hit by a train in Jack london square in Oakland a few years ago.

Nope.

I followed the news coverage at the time.

garibaldi hit by train - Bing

As it was reported, Dave and Marc VW [their then-substitute now-permanent bassist] were walking across a local street on the way to and very near their gig of several days [at Yoshi's club ?] on one of the evenings, must not have been paying attention at a crossing, and a commuter train hit them [That's like an oversized street car with more than one section].

There were serious injuries and surgeries to both, and fears of permanent damage and/or death for a few days.

Dave was released first, and Marc was unconscious longer but rebounded too.

The rest of the gig was cancelled, IIRC, and I'm not sure how many more.

They each convalesced at their respective homes for a period, and then rejoined the band.

During the interim, other alumni drummers who have filled in for Dave not long prior when he had both hip joints replaced [ so yes, he REALLY knows What is Hip ! :smug: ] did so again, and Rocco played some more with them before retiring later, substituting for the guy who had been substituting for HIM.

I'm guessing it's because I grew up near a train track, and walked on it for miles at a time. I cannot see how a person gets hit by a train unless there's some misadventure or inebriation going on.

It's not like you don't know where they are going. That said, I'm not wishing ill, or making fun of someone's misfortunes. I just don't understand the conditions involved.

Yes, it all seems rather strange and unfortunate.

I'm just glad that they recovered and bounced back.

If you are sufficiently curious, you could check the news articles, as there were even some with reporters doing video clips to simulate what may have happened, plus witness interviews, IIRC.

I've seen and ridden traditional streetcars in Toronto, and like these commuter trains, they share the roadway with cars and pedestrians, travelling at about the same speed as the cars, and as a rule all manage to coexist.

The guys might simply have been walking and talking, IIRC as part of a larger group of pedestrians moving along together, and not noticed the train until it was too late, as apparently there is not all that much noise from these trains at the lower speed at which they move.

The last two times that I saw Tower were prior to the accident, in Ottawa and Kingston Ontario, Canada, when on one occasion Rocco was there but Dave was off recovering from getting his hips replaced, with ToP 90s alumnist Herman Matthews on drums that day, and on the other, Dave was there, but the same Marc Van Wageningen was subbing for Rocco.

I spent hours reading this thread from start to finish. I started reading because for years I have been trying to get comfortable playing bass which I play ok but my fingers are very small. I started searching short scale basses and I came across this thread. After reading I ordered a black mini p bass that should be here Friday. I'm so excited to be able to play and improve without all the hand pain. I have purchased many mods for it already like 1/4 pound pickup black tuning keys black bridge strap buttons ( because I read here they were useless ) and some knobs. I hate chrome so all the chrome had to go. The only thing I need is a cream pickguard to complete my look. I'm probably going to paint the stock one. But I really want a multi ply one. Does anyone have any suggestions. I found a seller on ebay but its very pricey.
