Somebody mentioned that the DI might be a line level rather than mic level. Line level and Mic level would have two entirely different impedances associated with them, and would require a board that can handle that kind of signal coming through the mic line.

I would think that some of your lesser quality boards might sound thin and "unusable" due to the loading of the board, that is **IF** the LMII DI is a different impedance.

I've seen it before, low impedance will accentuate the lows. High impedance will accentuate the highs and restrict the lows to a degree, more so with electronics than pickups or a passive instrument. Modern electronics need to see a proper load to work effectively.

Just some food to chew on.

Does anybody have a way to measure the DI out scientifically to prove theories on the design of the LMII DI?

This makes sense to me...as I record to an interface that is line level. It reminds me of my mesa, which always distorted every board at every club since the DI was after the main on the amp...

A friend of mine who's been building his own electronics lately has offered to build me a nice DI that is switchable for mic/line level depending upon my playing situation that he thinks would help for such situations.

So I've been trying out what I can get my hands on, had the Genz Benz 3.5...didn't like how it colored the tone so much, tried a bunch load of others...finally I realized after being back to the music store to try out the markbass stuff for now the 3rd time, I had to give in and try it out.

I LOVE this thing so far and I've only turned it as loud as the first dot. I cranked it in the store and it was quite clear as well. (This is just through a 1x12)

I'd love to know if anyone has any feedback on this combo of head/cab. It seems quite a few people have paired it with an Epifani of some type.

Bass wise I'm using an MTD (Heir) 5 string.

I also picked up that little stand you can use to tilt your cab back with. The nice thing is that won't slide away from the Epifani cab. (Velcro attaches nicely to the soft material on the cab).

The pics.

Last night Bovinehost had a get together with some bass playing friends, about 9 or 10 in total and I brought the Little Mark PJB combo out. Everybody was anxious to play it because very few people have heard the PJB stuff before. When I first got it I said on here that I thought it sounded nice but was maybe a little too quiet.

While the 4B isn't going to power a rock concert anytime soon, we were all pretty impressed with how loud the combo sounded and how it seemed to work with any bass we threw at it. The low end is very natural sounding and there is enough of it. I am looking forward to being able to pair it with a second 4B in the future, I think it would be fairly usable.

Here is another pic with my my new super bargain Bongo 5HHp.

Just got back from a stand-in gig and still stoked! Everything went well, the gig was lots of fun and most importantly: my MarkBass/EBS rig kicked major butt!

It´s been a while since I´ve had the chance to really put my rig to work; our regular band has a full PA support and in-ear monitoring, so the stage volume is very low. In fact, I´ve even done couple of gigs without my amp.

But anyways, this gig was different; only vocals and keys went through PA, the rest was all backline. The room was pretty big and there were maybe 150 people present. The setlist was mostly soul-funk-disco-style, pretty bass-heavy stuff. And on top of all that, the drummer was quite heavy handed.

So how did my rig perform?

I couldn´t push the master volume over 9 o´clock, it was that loud. During the first song the brass section (they stood in front of me) kept looking over their shoulders, they just couldn´t believe such a puny little stack could sound so huge.

And of course, the tone was beautiful: clear, defined and punchy as heck. I boosted the lo mid control on the LMII slightly, otherwise everything was flat.

I guess I had kind of forgotten how awesome my rig is, but this night was a great reminder!

There's so much awesome in that picture I had to save it. From your rig and the Brubaker to the beautiful Gretsch kit. Your guitarist's amp is a Peavy Classic, right? Those things sound killer. Plus it's all on a beautiful outdoor stage (deck?).

Classy! :bassist:

Thanks.

Actually it's a Kendricks guitar amp. Also a nice lefty Strat. Didn't get the keyboard in the pic. It was a nice compact stage, plenty of room for four pieces and the leader who flew in from Vegas. Everything sounded great, only vocals in the PA, very well balanced sound. Very receptive audience, great food, good pay, relatively short gig. I like gigs like this.

Hi Guys
just got back from three gigs with my SA450 and LMII set up going through my UL212. I used the DI on both with EQ flat and just a tweak on the filters and both sounded exactly the same tone wise (or as close as they could be expected).
I had the SA450 set to post and balanced the two using the level control.

Going OT i didnt really get on with the UL212. I felt it seems to lack low end but the gigs were on large wooden stages. Can i ask would something like one of those Gramma matts help with getting the low end back? We seem to be playing a lot of these sort of gigs and im finding i just cant get the tight low end out front that i can with my UL115.
Thanks.

Actually, it would make it "worse". The Gramma pads are designed to decouple the cab from the stage to reduce some of the lows, to tighten up the low end by reducing the coupling effects.

So if you're getting too much low end, causing mud on stage, which is a problem many of us have at times, the Gramma really helps solve that.

However, if you're not getting enough low end, you don't want a Gramma, and (just as an FYI) you also want to keep the cab flat on the stage... don't kick it back, and definitely don't elevate it.

Just some info for you guys, if you like me, had 'problems' with the LMII lacking with effects. hope it helps some of you guys and sorry for the length

After messing around with the LMII, Metal Muff and Woolly Mammoth i found that the VLE (set at noon-ish) IMO sounds killer with a clean tone. However with effects it basically just killed the two pedals. They both sounded dead, flat, boring, lifeless and plain damn awful. When engaged(with a effected line)the VLE seems to be a blend knob between a clean signal and a clean signal and i found it hates effected signals.
However i found the complete oppersite from the VPF. I do not like this filter with a clean signal what so ever.Utter useless, the peffect knob IMO to get lost in the mix! When cranked with some form of dist/fuzz it really brings out the grit/grind from them and even sounded like such a hot signal, even from a passive!! (I swear my 'passive' has a hidden battery somewhere now)The only slight problem i had with this, is that being a filter, in conjunction with the WM's pinch*noise gate*(set at around 11)when tapping you may get a few bad notes that the amp of pedal wont pass.

Best results IMO;
Clean signal VLE - 12 VPF - Off
Effected signal VLE - Off VPF - 3
The only bad thing now is that im gunna have to change setting on the LMII when i stomp on my boxes :(

One thing to note on the VLE/VPF is that they are both flat when completely off. Too much VLE with effects or not is going to make it sound dull and lifeless, because you are rolling off all of the high end.

Not to be rude or disrespectful, but thats not what i've found in my experience and all of that was based on my experience with those two pedals and amp.(allthough i do like more highs than mids/lows on my MM for a cliff-esque sorta distortion, so that may contribute to what you said with that pedal!)
Try it and experiement some time with a dist/fuzz/od pedal.
Each to their own however!

So, the Bergantino HT310 shows up on Friday afternoon. I'm thinking, "what a weekend I'm going to have."

I plug in with the LMKII and immediate realize their is incredible distortion coming from one, possibly two speakers. Needless to say, it was damaged in transit by who else....UPS.

Anyway, the cabinet was picked up today, but at this moment, I'm out nearly $600 and have no cabinet available for use. Sold my Aggies just a couple days ago.

It's a pretty upsetting situation, and I'm sure things will work out, but for now, I have no Bergantino and no cab at all. Needless to say, no pics this time around.

Oh well, life happens.

Damn, sorry to hear that. :(

Well, today I went and checked out the LMII in person and I have to say I'm impressed. Its loud and light and the primary tone is nice and clean with lots of options to alter it. I tried it with both the MB 210 and 410 neither which I really cared for... the 210 really did nothing for me.

I cant really justify buying the LMII but darn that GAS... I want one.
