The Top Ten Things I Learned From Talkbass

We are a small percentage of all the bass players in the world. Even though we worship the brands we use, it's really a TB thing as most players have never heard of many of the "popular" brands we couldn't live without. Like may forums, we are a select few, sometimes the elite of the forum, sometimes not so much, but still a small percentage of the overall out there.

It's the same with the Mustang forum I frequent. Everyone there has every mod to their Mustang. They all know their 1/4 mile and 0-60 times. They have custom tunes, cod air intakes, etc., etc. Sound familiar?

There's a Mustang guitar forum out there where if you don't bow before Kurt Cobain, you are nothing--even if he had nothing to do with why you play a Mustang--as if nobody ever played them before Nirvana existed.

Fortunately they are a tiny minority of Mustang players...

-Onboard preamps (active bases) suck -- but pedal preamps work wonders.
-Everyone's on-stage rig is critically important to their live sound -- even though it's basically just a big, costly monitor.
-Everyone's 410/210 plus 115 mixed-driver set up has the best sound -- but of course, they've never really compared these to a matched-driver rig.
-Everyone's Squier, MIM Fender and SBMM Ray plays and sounds every bit as good, better even, than MIA Fenders and EBMM Sting Rays -- except the Squiers, MIMs and SBMMs I find in stores.

Mixing a 4x10 cab with a 1x15 cab will open a rip in the time-space continuum and suck out all your tone, along with your mojo.

You have been warned.

And when all else fails, fire the drummer.

This is absolutely not true. Mixing a 4x10 cab with a 1x15 cab will send you back in time, but only enough to make you land off the beat. This happened to a guy I know.
