If anyone is in or near to the Chicago area, and if they still have it, there is a TE 1084 for sale at Andy's Pro Hire for $400! :eek:
It is a used backline cab but hey, these aren't easy to find! I wish I could afford the shipping as I would snap it up!
BTW, if anyone on here buys it, let us know!

DougP. Your Trace will be one of two models trace produced. The Vinyl finsh indicates it will be a mid-late 90s - probably 95/96 version. The 715 SM is rated at 130w 4 ohms whilst the virtually identical looking 7215 SM puts out 250 w at 4 ohms. If there are no numbers, they can easily identified because the 715 won't have an extention speaker output as the internal driver is 4 ohms. The higher powered model has an 8 ohm internal drive unit and will drive another box. The later carpet covered Sm series had upgraded power stages to give 150 and 300w respectively. Hope you enjoy your new amp, I've used Trace Elliot stuff for years and still love it. Matt

And just out of interest my V4 smashed a valve up the other day, sparks and all sorts in it, not good. Ive replaced the knackered pair for the time being with the two kt88s that didn't die last time. So Ive got a 6550 and a KT88 on either side. I know PBG will rip me to peices for that but seen as my AH400 is on ebay and my combo is ill too, I've not much choice in this financially stricken time. I gigged it last night and it sounded cool, the bias came up right etc, seems to have no issues like this. Any thoughts?

GP 7 SM 150W for his, 300W for my model.

I gigged my 300w 7215 combo in a small bar last night, its first outing. It sounded great, I really like the pre shape button, left it out for the rockier songs for some grit and pushed it in for the more chilled songs to round things off.

Running it without an extension cab (200w RMS @ 8 ohms with the internal 15" driver) I was at the upper limits of its volume (no PA) but it provided a great deal of punch and clarity, plus growl on tap. One very happy bassist here! Plus the spring loaded side handles are very handy for lugging it around (its not exactly the lightest of combos).

The cab, unfortunately, I know nothing about. Hopefully someone with some info/experience with them will come along and enlighten us both!

Hey thanks Kelly! and cheers for the link, I've just been having a read through the smx and a few other .pdfs, interesting stuff, schematics for it date from 1997. Was that during the kaman era when things started to go wrong? When did the green felt covering start being used?

Really hope I'm not getting a dud here. Think it's gonna be cool though, the guy I'm buying it off is John Giblin, a Scottish session guy. I chatted to him on the phone for a bit and he seemed like a cool guy...

Yea, the amp you have looks to be a Gibson era SMX but there is nothing wrong with that. I'm sure it is fine. There has been a lot of misinformation concerning reliability issues with Trace during the Gibson and Kaman eras. There were a few things both of them did to cut corners but overall still produced an excellent product.

As for the green carpet, from what I can tell it started in the mid 90's. Can't say for sure when as I don't have any of the factory brochures from that time.

OK, on to sharing my latest addition to my rig, the Trace Elliot 4052H "Bright Box". I must say I really love this little box. It adds the sparkle of highs without the noise or harshness of a traditional horn/tweeter. It did shock me at how heavy it is though. It checks in at a whopping 22 lbs! Here are a couple of pics:

Nice! I had my eye on an RAH350SMX on ebay with a 4x10 and brightbox, but the 4x10 was pretty tatty. That's this auction here:

Considering I got mine for less than that with the 600w head, i'm not too bothered about losing out on it.

As I play a 5 string, would you suggest a bright box or 1x15 next? I'll have more of an idea of what I need when I get it but just in case I see either going cheap on ebay anytime soon...

That's an awesome 2x15 you've got there! I've got a homebuilt 2x15 at the moment, it's pretty imposing but useless to get to gigs... :(

Just thought, maybe your rig might look a bit more balanced with the bright box on top of the cab then your head.

That's a nice rig though, I wish I could snag a bright box, but they don't pop up that much.

Tom C., I'm not sure what would be the best cab to add to it. I don't have any experience with the 412's so I don't know if they do bass well or if they are more of a mid-hi type cab. The Bright Box I think is an awesome addition but they are very hard to find. It took a weird turn for me to get hooked up with one.

Anyways, wait till you get it and see how it sounds and then you should have a better idea which way to go. Heck, you might not need to add anything else! I think that rig is just going to kill! :bassist:

It's a good match. The Bright Box just adds that little something extra yet it is nearly transparent. It is really hard to explain. It blends very, very well.

The 215's are the same width as the 410's. The key is to find one that would match up ohm wise. The one I have is the 4 ohm (1524) but they did make an 8 ohm (1528) as well. They appear very hard to find though. :( Ofcourse, if you have an amp that can do 2 ohms, it's all good. :)
