Thoughts on this bass?

I emailed him to ask what's his rock bottom... just to screw around.

You know - that really sucks. If you were a person selling something, how would you like this kind of crap? Really funny. Most of you are not interested in that bass and wouldn't consider buying it but it's so worthwhile ragging on someone else's attempt to sell something (regardless of what you personally think of it or his copy). Like anyone cares what you think about it.

I agree that hassling the dude isn't cool.

But we're totally allowed to express our opinions on the instrument, it's condition, quality and value whether we're going to buy it or not. You're not new here.

In 2021 I plan to score a 70s Fender Jazz, and the price here is good but I have questions about the neck and based on the language in the ad, I question the neck wear in the photos.

I would be curious about the Fralins, but would probably put a BA II on it.

I am curious about one thing: the third pic seems to show water damage. Will someone tell me if I am right or wrong?

Good question. It is not water damage. You're seeing some lacquer worn about halfway back on the binding (the top half is bare) and what I charitably call "people goo" stuck in the lacquer edge and then a big mess of more "people goo" and wear on the edge of the neck carve. I seriously would not touch that neck without gloves - bought a few like that and the cleanup process is revolting. Strat bridges in particular seem to really pile up the hand sludge.

He's probably got someone near to him, if he needs a hug or maybe he's got a support iguana. ;)

People do care what he thinks. That's why people come to this forum and post threads like this.

The guy asked the seller what his bottom line was, even though he has no intention of buying. So what? Why does that rankle you? Taking 3 seconds out of a sellers day doesn't even qualify as a mild inconvenience. Yet you've got your underoos in a knot over it? Relax.

Pretty ok, the more damage in vintage - more used and played, liked.

I agree - and he clearly states it's players grade. For that price, a thorough cleaning (with rubber gloves!) would be mandatory. The rest would be up to the buyer, as in if wanted more "original" - 70's Fender bent-plate bridges are around and not that expensive. The pricy Babicz could easily be sold to help offset the cost. The Fralin's are probably much better sounding pu's than the originals were. It's old wood that was played a lot - that's what the bass is worth. That is, if one was actually interested in purchasing it.

The poster asked the question to mock the seller and had no intention of considering buying it. Apparently you are not a seller.

On the contrary, I am a seller. I've been asked a bazillion questions, many of which are much much more irritating than "What's your bottom line?". Insultingly lowball offers, people asking for my PayPal email address so they can send payment and then never hearing from them again, and - my favorite - guys who have no intention of buying arguing with me about a solder joint. If the most annoying question I get is someone asking my bottom line, I'd consider that living the high life.

Good points - I've experienced similar. It's just annoying. No biggy.
