Finally got around to starting a project i have been planning and Thunderbucker discontinued the 5 string Thunderbuckers. Anyone know if the standard Thunderbucker will work with a 17.5mm spaced 5 string?
I think Lull has 5 string Tbird pups that according to our Queen are phenomenal sounding.

Hi everyone! New Burgundy Bird here!
Nice to meet an active group of TB bassists, wish you have a great day, I’m coming from Fender and Modulus looking for another animal of tone, im in love with this bass, the looks, and I did not get the ear yet in the perfect tone, but I changed the factory strings for a DR pure Blues with 3 months of use, and im down for this setup!
Some pics from yesterday! Cheers!

Those Burgundy NR basses just look so sweet. My GAS is getting nearly uncontrollable. I might have to take inventory of gear I’m not using anymore to fund my addiction.

Congratulations one your first Thunderbird and getting the very cool non-reverse (NR in these parts)!
I have had mine about three weeks and am still string trying for that perfect match in a live setting. Thus far Roto 66 Nickels have sounded the best by far.

Sweet SG, BTW.

I'm not a photographer by any means.

Dude! Shoes?

That finish is nice. I wonder if they used silver as a base-coat like Fender did with CAR. (first gold)
Thanks, I'm in love with it. Likely because I've had a thing for CAR for a long time. But you raise an interesting question.

This is CAR-ish, if that was a color in '63-64. Interestingly enough it has a gold base-coat and black under that if I recall. I figured it was from a refin not going about it correctly. I don't think they ever used black as an under-coat either. It had the refin done many decades ago. Long enough it actually looks original with the wear. It's no longer bright in most places and has something of a copper hue to it in a certain light and angle, and that slightly greenish pick guard from that time. You can see the gold and black where the forearm wear is.

@GonePlaid Regarding the neck on the NR. I didn't get the '64 out, but if you grab your '67 about or in between the 4th and 5th fret you will be close to feeling what the neck feels like at the nut of the new NR. But the NR is/seems slightly more shallow (less thick front to back). I did this on a VP and that was doggone close to the feel of it. I don't have any calipers to be more exact.

I had a CAR '68 P bass, I thought it had a white undercoat with a gold and then red top coat but I got rid of it in 1995 so I may be wrong, I did wear the thing right down to the wood in several places though, you could see the different layers feather into each other. That's not Dakota red is it?

No, it's CAR or something that looks like it but faded. Yes, I always thought they had white underneath. I think mine was from a refin at some point. Thus I could afford the bass in the first place. Sounds fantastic with Pyramid Gold Flats.

What changed around 2000? I know I read someplace about better wood before mid 2000s or something like that.

The century?:smug:

As I recall, the world ended. Again. Gotta say, the parties for this one were much better and more prolific than for most.
