The Methyl Hydrate doesn't cost what a set of strings run does it?When I had more time than money and wanted my strings to be as bright as possible, I used to clean roundwound strings to extend their life. Last year I tried it on flats and they came out sounding new. Then I had to break them in again
All you need is a 3’ piece of 2” ABS or poly pipe. Glue a cap on one end, fill with Methyl Hydrate, drop the strings in ball end first, leaving the tuner ends hanging on the edges of the open end of the pipe. Let them soak for a few hours, remove the strings and then let them dry.
Don’t leave the Methyl Hydrate in the pipe, it will eventually break down the plastic.
Much of that bright “new string” sound is restored by cleaning the strings. I play with a heavy touch, so my roundwounds also get flat spots from the frets - they only last so long.
On a few basses I never change the kind of string and that might be an idea. Other basses its often a time to try and experiment with something new.

My experience with medical marijuana has been that those promoting it are mostly (but not all) marijuana enthusiasts rather than medical enthusiasts. Same with those promoting psychedelics for psychiatric conditions.
I am a fan of the central coast wines. Conditions that produce superb pinot grapes.

Choice 1 - get a steroid injection. things will improve very quickly and may stay that way for a long time. Can be repeated many times.
Choice 2 - get the surgery. the recovery is very fast and a plastic surgeon will hide the scars so that unless they are pointed out, no one will ever notice. It is absolutely curative.
Doing nothing is not an option. Over time, you will permanently damage the nerve and feeling will not return.

I practiced all the time, amp or no amp.
Never killed any strings back in those days, go figure.
In recent years, i changed my right hand technique, (go ahead gang, ahem!)
So the heavy hand is now gone.
Add washing your hands in hot water to your warm up routine. The soaping massage and the hot water really loosen things up.
