Thunderbird Club

I was about to type "Let me know if you want to sell the bridge cover" thinking that would be cool for my 68 EBO, but looking at my bass, it never had a bridge cover. I picked up a handrest (calling it that because it doesn't cover anything) locally last year. It looks like this - my bass is far more worn and doesn't have the mute:

Yes, mine only had the bridge cover like the example I posted, but it had the same bridge as yours.

I didn't even notice the hs face wasn't pictured - you're probably right... oh well... And yah, that bridge looks serious - maybe it will be high-mass/heavy enough to fight neck-dive! (especially with 8 tuners) Having always been curious about playing an 8-string bass, the price of admission was low enough so that even if I have fun with it for a while and grow tired of it - I can always re-sell it and not lose money. It looks decent in the pics.

It'll be the second SG-style bass I've owned - my second bass bought new was a '68 EB-3 in '71. (NOS) Not mine - I wanted brown, but mine had the cherry finish.., which I stripped off.., and de-fretted...

My only pic of it - a test-strip image, shot in the Kansas City Art Institute dorm bathroom when I was a freshman. I wonder if it's been refinished in cherry and re-fretted! :) I still have the bridge cover!

Wow! Some real nice grain there on that bass.

If I got persnickety every time a club thread went off topic, I wouldn't have time to take out the trash between issuing infractions. It was the particulars that were unfortunate. Go ahead and talk about crockery, omelettes, traffic signals in Singapore, best paint color for metal, I don't care.

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome, y'all. Don't worry, don't worry; I can see myself out.

Nah, stick around. You gave us a break.

Not sure if you saw this one, kinda interesting and up your alley…
Vintage Intermark Cipher 4-String Bass Guitar Japan | eBay

Pretty cool, in VGC, a good price and a "Handsomely Sculpted Guitar"... but I just bought a bass! :) Just noticed that the back of the hs has "Made In USA" stamped on it...

Also of note - both body & neck are mahogany. I'm already getting on modding it - ordered 6 guitar (smaller) tuners for the 4 thinner strings. I have a feeling it's going to be a neck-diver.

They were still available in 2017 when the VP was released and in 2018. Don’t know they were just liquidating stock or still producing them. It kind of wouldn’t make since for them to keep producing them….
Only because they don't really market basses. Look at how many variants they do of other things; I think there's a market for both.

omg…..can’t wait to hear your assessment here…...iron maiden?…..:(

Anyone who's never spent time in an anechoic chamber really should try it. Sometimes when my employer's isn't otherwise occupied, I just go hang out in it for a few minutes.

Stupid me opened the case of the NR while vertical. I forgot a I had an phaser I only use at home and it bounced around and hit the bass. Actually the neck volume knob--which it broke. Since I need to buy a set most likely, I'm considering going gold like the many/most of the 60s instead of the the black. Any thoughts?

The black looks good, but would gold look better? I'm thinking it might.

Is anyone concerned Chuck is listening in on our conversations at home? I mean, anyone have a neighbor with an intercontinental antenna like that? I think the bass player thing is just a cover. He really works for one or ore of the three-letter agencies.;):smug:

Nah, man, he's set up a highly directional, non-leaking connection. He's with the other CIA: Counter-Illuminati Association.
