Curious, if these tubes really are from the 70s, how would they compare to a modern tube?
no comparison…..infinitely better devices….keep in mind these were meant to go into life critical implementations where it’s a known fact brand new designs are meant for musical instrument applications….iow, them older RCA (and others) went onto Mercury and Gemini type programs…..doubt modern types fulfill LabX requirements…. make sense?…

Reminds me of a Portuguese Man-o'-war.

I had a Portuguese gf many years ago. She was a cyclist. It was fun for a while but I ended up refering to her as "the evil one". One of those relationships where after it ended, all my friends confessed that they always thought she was trouble. (!) What are friends for... :cautious:

I have one of those that I bought months ago but never put in. Wasn’t sure it would work well for bass, although the videos on guitar sound pretty good. Have you tried one on bass yet?

My most likely recipient would be the China Goth where I was contemplating installing two stacked vol/tone pots with the neck using a .022 cap and the bridge using the fuzz cap. Since I rarely use the bridge I would have the fuzz off, but if fuzz was wanted I’d be able to roll in the bridge pup for a wet/dry blend or even solo.

Will be wiring it next week. I'm going for the vibe of those '60s basses (Vox/EB bass) that had marginal sounding on-board distortion/fuzz. Just a fun (novelty) option. Once you see the bass it will be very clear. :)

I'm wiring it to the master tone (push/pull) pot so it can be used in any pu setting. (2 pu's; N/NB/B) For TSC's and BG, I use an MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe pedal sparingly for warm girth (intro's to The Avengers Theme and Live & Let Die - emulating full orchestration) and my MXR d.i.+ has a distortion switch if I need more aggressive grit. (occasionally used in a jam session when things 'get loud'...)

Once I get it done I’ll try to post a sound clip. I’m thinking it should be a good match for the Goth pickups which are pretty hot and run about 11k+ ohms.

wording’s right on the money Donnie, exactly what happens….filter caps drain their charge….on many amps (not all) if you want it to happen faster you hit the low E, let it ring and then hit the standby to the off position…
I always drain the caps on Acoustic Control amps the same way. Solid state but the same idea applies. The caps in those will hold a whalloping charge for several months.

I met a stunning Portuguese woman in a nightclub at one point. She curled up my toenails, but I was already married. So, that was that. It was all for the best, most likely. She sure could move.
