The original neck is, which i still have.
This is an AllParts neck on there.
It's a little wonky as well.
At some point i'll have a custom built neck made, don't know when that'll ever be.
But for now, i have it set up decent enough.
Oh, and it sounds killer.

I put in a '63 Pure Vintage and SD HawkBucker by the bridge.
I was fascinated to learn relatively recently that the bubonic plague is still around, just in small numbers and easily cured.
Yeah, that would pose a problem.

Currently, I have three basses with dual single-coils, none honk - I try to avoid that sort of tone like....can we still say "like the plague"? Or do we have to specify which one, now?

Some basses/pu's honk but it isn't usually automatic - pu settings, playing approach/technique share influences to invite it. Like a fretless - it can be played to make the mwah sound but it can also be played to sound like any bass.

The Pure Vintage series has some great pickups that often get overlooked in favor of designer names, IMO. I put a set in a MIM Jazz and it sounded sooooo much better. The pickups with the beveled poles are in my Fender Hotrod P/J. I think they are the Pure Vintage '62. Fantastic! So when you say it sounds killer, I'm positive it does.

Thx! It does sound great and was my main player up until I migrated into pure humbucker territory.
The "normal" J Bass 'honk' became popular(Jaco?), especially with jazz guys, so some people(definitely not me)think that's a "good" sound(again not me). I've heard J's sound great. And I've heard them-and others-sound, to me, like hammered
. As previously mentioned, I like a bass to sound like A BASS! I know, weird.A bass sounding like a bass doesn't sound weird at all. That makes sense. The phrase I'm having trouble understanding is "hammered poo." I agree that it is the individual player who determines how a bass sounds according to their personal preference/likes.

one has to roll off the neck pup and tone completely to get a J bass to start honking….a setting/tone many basses just cannot support….
if adjusted the way most people adjust their Birds on this forum…either all dimed or all dimed with bridge pup off or barely on, J basses sound like this…
He uses star charts from a galaxy far, far, away.I think you need to wind your calendar...
The death toll of the Plague is widely disputed. Both modern and medieval estimates have been called into question. But the fact of the matter is, if people back then had bothered to develop antibiotics, many/most of those deaths could have been avoided.
