Can't get much more awesome than this song - (who cares what bass was played...)
One of the best!
Were both basses bolt-on necks or were they neck through?
A photo of each would help a lot. The 2009 made in China sounds about right, colors did change a bit. The other bass could be a Tbird Pro if it’s neck through. If it has a bolt on neck the serial number and country of origin might be on the neck plate.
I don’t have any ownership experience with the Tbird Pro model but from postings in this club it seams many aren’t fond of the active preamp it has.
Don Barnes of .38 Special (and sang most hits) had at least one old one and that was all he ever played. He and Jeff Carlisi (explorers) both had fantastic sounding guitars.my buddy Matt with his 59 LP Jr. thing weighs under 5 lbs!….

Dude, how could you forget? I live in Louisville, KY, not Bozeman, Montana.I sent a really good friend an early Christmas present yesterday. It arrived in Bozeman Montana yesterday afternoon. I'd been sending tracking updates and then he sees this notice . Talk about NGD torture!View attachment 4885357View attachment 4885358

Very kind of you to say. Thank you sir.
What a cool gift! Your friend has a great friend.
Both nice looking Epiphone Thunderbird IV models. If you can, play both. Pay attention to overall weight, neck thickness, neck dive and sound. If one feels and sounds better to you, that’s the one to get.here are the Pictures. Redish one is the 09 one

You're welcome. And it's true. That's very kind of you to say. Thank you sir.
Hej
I was looking for a Epiphone thunderbird, and I came across 2 of them for same price, but they looks abit different.
1) First one has a serial that starts with 09 and assembled in Chine, and looks actually looks a bit redder than the photos of Epiphone thunderbird you find on shops. Based on research it looks like it was manifactured in 2009.
2) Second one does not have a serial number, on back but the color is more usual wood colour
Can someone with knowledge tell me what the difference is between the 2 other? Has the production improved/worsened since than etc?
Thanks

Yes, I can confirm the neck plate bit, mine is from 2016. Best bass I've ever played, both in feel and level of confort when playing. Outclasses every other bass I've ever tried in any music shop out, even more expensive basses or brands. These "cheaper" "lower level" Epiphones are pure gold, honest. As GBassNorth said, these are the Epi Thunderbird IV model. Newer Epi Thunderbirds have slimmer necks than older versions but I believe the pickups have not really changed over the years. They also went with (what I assume is) a cheaper to produce neck plate instead of using the chrome version that contained the serial number. I think the newer Birds have the serial number on the back of the headstock.
