Thunderbird Club

Is The Call still open? I saw Entwistle there with his band in 1999, the day after they played Sir Morgan's Cove in Worcester.
Hey I remember that. I didn't go, but an ex-bandmate went. She walked in on him in his dressing room and got a nasty look, lol. I'd have given her a nasty look too...

There Last Call/The Call closed quite a few years ago.
I did a benefit there for a drummer friend who got sick... Billy was the manager, I called him one night and asked about using the place. He asked the owner and it was on. They were fine folks as far as I'm concerned. They asked for nothing... They did get some advertising. Had a mess of good bands, gave away an eight person hookah, sex toys, belly dancing lessons... It was a cool event.
Anyway yeah. There's a place called Miramar there now.

I think The Cove is gone too, too bad, Muddy Waters, Hooker etc used to play that place in the 70's before I got into blues. :banghead:

My Mesa M2000 is 650w with a twin-tube pre (my most powerful amp) - I never have the volume set higher that 9:00 and lately with our new drummers, we've been enjoying less overall volume and more nuanced playing. Last night Cherie said she can finally hear my bass-lines! (I'll have to tighten up my act in that case!) :D Kidding aside - I'm lovin' it. Breaking in two drummers who understand dynamics and err on the side of 'appropriate volume', or when live "playing (volume) to the room". :bassist:
I guess I missed that you found a second drummer. Makes sense. I bet the law student might have a few other things he has to tend to from time to time….

Got to use the NR with SIT Power Wounds at a quick rehearsal tonight. They sound really good and feel great. As good as any string I've tried on that bass. Really nice pick sound, but playing with fingers didn't turn into mud. Big, full and decent punch, with some nice highs with pleasant bite. I liked them so much I may leave them on and use them again Sunday before putting them on the Jazz for a better comparison to the David E. set. Then again, I'm anxious to try the Foundations as well....
There you go playing with your strings again.

Excellent! Any minute differences you hear could also simply be one being a little more used than the other.
Yes, though only by a few hours, and they are different gauges as well. The DEs are 105, and the PWs 100. People argue about gauges making a noticeable difference, but I've never noticed it. Like a lot of things, maybe it's more of people hearing what they want as much as anything. It may be true, I've just never experienced it.

I mainly find the 105s do better when downtuning.

This would have been Beck Bogert & Appice's second album, Bogert was a big hero of mine, so was Appice, actually so was Beck . It's really too bad they didn't finish this, I think it would have been way better than their first. The second tune is a little slow but I think it's Bogert playing an upright which I've never heard before.
It's available online, if you know where to look ;). It RAWKS.

Another good one off the aborted album:

So who was it in the band that you didn't care for?

Never mind, you ran out of people.....:smug:

That's a nice bass, I used to drool over those Lull T-Birds.
Michael Rhodes played one--when he wasn't using a 60s Embassy.

Played through some nice rigs as well. Note the pickup of choice....

Interesting little find for those of you with 2015 birds or other basses with similar pups or basses with Babicz bridges.

I know I tried them before, but on a lark I decided to restring my 2015 with EBCF strings since I had taken the SITs off if to donate to the 22NR. Before I put the strings on the 2015 I hammered the pups as low as they’d go. Installed the EBCFs, tuned it up, and set the action super low, adjusted the intonation, set the witness points at the nut and bridge (don’t think I did that on the 2015 before) and made a couple of minor fine tuning tweaks to the truss and bridge. At first blush she sounds wonderful, much much better than she ever has. We’ll see if it holds over time.

I don’t really know for sure what’s different, because I’m pretty sure I dropped the pup height with every string I’ve tried on this bass (except the SITs). I do know setting witness points at each string end is important for optimal performance, and I admit to not doing that for whatever reason on this bass in the past. All I can figure is the combination of a very low break angle at the bridge and lack of witness points on the strings was possibly contributing to a minor shifting of intonation with string ocilitation resulting in a slight chorus or out of tune effect.

So all this time I’ve been focusing on the pickups (and their monstrous magnetic pull) to correct the chorus effect but in theory it may have been the minimal bridge saddle break angle and lack of witness points allowing the string to move just enough to throw a ghost tone in the mix.

For those of you with Babicz bridges (especially if they have very minimal break angle on the strings) do yourself a favor and tune everything to where you want it, then intonate AND set witness points at the nut and bridge. Always a good practice but for some reason I repeatedly forgot that last step on this bass.

No, TSC's still has our young law student Zach - the 'other' new drummer (Phil) is new for Cherie's 'Bond Girl', which is back on track after a hiatus for a few years due to her health issues. We already have shows on the 2023 calendar and we're learning a bunch of fun new songs. Including rehearsing/incorporating more danceable songs into our repertoire's, as Bond movie themes are generally not dance songs. So we're staying in a spy/lounge/subject matter-theme oriented list of songs to augment the Bond songs. For example; Peter Gunn Theme morphing into Planet Clair, further morphing into Sarah Vaughns' Bye-Bye. Fun!
