I was wondering if any of you use fuzz or overdrive/distortion pedals and if so which ones . Im considering getting a Big muff as theres a couple of songs we do that could use it . Just now Im using the second channel on my amp with the footswitch but its not great . Ive heard good things about the Darkglass kit but its pretty expensive and no stockists near where I live so I dont fancy buying blind sort of thing .
I'm using the MXR M85 Bass Distortion, set up more as an OD, meaning the distortion is dialed way back. It was designed with the dude at Fuzzrocious, and can produce an unusually huge amount of distortion. They run about $140-ish. I like the Darkglass a little better, but not for the price difference. Nobody cares about the bass tone except the bassist and any other bassists in the room. Nobody else cares at all unless there's no bass.

@marko57

Love the pipes. Green Hills of Tyrol is my favourite.

No offense but ask any piper who's been at it a while and he'll probably groan at the mere mention of it! :) It's a standard that we play all the time. :) Every parade, every massed bands. On the plus side, it's one of the easier tunes to learn so when you're starting out you love it because you can actually play a tune! Typically played with The Battle's O'er as a set.

So it's kind of like Mustang Sally for Pipers.

They were originally a by product of the brewing process I believe and are technically 'yeast extracts'. Ingredients include yeast, sugar, salt and various components of the vitamin B complex.

The flavour is intense umami, not dissimilar to a strong miso. Also you only really need a smear, not slathered on like peanut butter. I don't mind Vegemite but prefer Marmite. British Marmite is an entirely different beast and I actively dislike it. I believe the two Marmites diverged during WWII when supplies to NZ were halted and a local version was formulated. Unintended consequences and all that hey?

The other thing we used to have when I was knee high to a grasshopper, was Maltexo - a syrupy malt extract in jars, again a by product of brewing.

We had Moxie (soda pop) when I was a kid. My cousin once described it as tasting "... like carbonated asphalt."

I tried Vegemite once.

I couldn't play it, don't think I have the legs for a Kilt.

EXACTLY my Queen! Spot on! :) I must say though, thus far I have escaped ever playing Mustang Sally! :) In 36 years of playing bass that's a pretty good record! ;)

Right there with you, I've played since 1974 and not once has Mustang Sally come forth.
