What I find interesting about Steve Harris is that he plays flats, and they just barely make it to the end of a set. I never would have guessed flats in a million years, but they are.

Yep. Harris is unadorned gonzo with a feel for melody. Rotosound makes him a sig flats set.

Also last I was aware, he was paying through Trace Elliot amps. Big, clean, punchy tones, not particularly driven, etc. Clear and "honest"... If you will...

I was wondering if any of you use fuzz or overdrive/distortion pedals and if so which ones . Im considering getting a Big muff as theres a couple of songs we do that could use it . Just now Im using the second channel on my amp with the footswitch but its not great . Ive heard good things about the Darkglass kit but its pretty expensive and no stockists near where I live so I dont fancy buying blind sort of thing .

I use a custom built Dunwich Muff.

I have used in the past:
EHX Big Muff (Russian)
EHX Big Muff Pi (American)
EHX Bass Big Muff
Way Huge Swollen Pickle

The first three were mostly only useful when I was using my wah pedal, since they're scooped and the wah adds in mids.

The Bass Big Muff was only really useful in a mix when set to "dry."

The Swollen pickle I liked but could be difficult to dial in. I dialed out all the scoop, and it's a monster that can practically take over a mix.

My Dunwich can do both the scooped muff and mid heavy muff jobs, so it kicked both the Swollen Pickle and the Bass Big Muff off the board.

One consideration, though, is that I'm going into an overdriven tube amp. Fuzz pedals are not my regular overdrive tone, but something extra for when a part of a song (usually at the end) needs just a little more oomph. My regular overdrive tone is just the amp.

For just regular overdrive, the Marshall Shredmaster is good for bass, actually.

I find that the Sansamp VT Bass amp emulator pedal has fantastic overdrive.

I bought a Big Muff Bass Fuzz a couple years ago because we cover a couple Motorhead songs but I couldn't find a sound I was happy with using it and ended up selling it.

That's because Lemmy's sound is just an overdriven Marshall with the mids dimed. Basically opposite of a Big Muff.

So it's kind of like Mustang Sally for Pipers.

I've oddly never played that song. Or even heard it requested.

LOL - but no, it is supposed to be very nutritious. All the B vitamins etc.
And I believe it too.

I also classify Guinness draught as a Health Food....

Yes and no... I do eat a few onions as flavoring and now that I am at goal a few carrots is OK too. Garlic is a requirement. I don't mention those in the basic criteria as the goal is avoid starchy root vegetables and I think onions, garlic, and the like are accessories and not main dishes. The actual list is quite detailed, but sometimes a good generalization suffices in the beginning.

In this case I think they're hoping someone else has a "lack of knowledge" and jumps on this mis-identified "Classic Pro" and thinks they're getting a good deal with really cheap shipping. It's easy to offer such cheap shipping when you're asking $100 more than the bass is worth. This is how the cynical me sees it. $14 for shipping... come on! In fairness though, all of their shipping is really cheap which leads me to believe that their prices must be high enough to cover the difference in actual shipping costs.

Other than it being stolen and sold cheap for drug money, it's usually a clueless newbie seller who screws up the established resale worth of instruments.

It was sold by a guitar shop, so i really don't know what they were thinking, pretty amateur.
Anybody who wants this masterpiece is prepared to pay at least 2500$-3000$.
Anyway, it was sold within 24 hours, no surprise.

Ive seen tons do that . Advertise as the pro when clearly it isnt .

Thanks for the info . By the sounds of things I think Ill give the Muff a pass . Ill stick with using the 'Drive' channel on the amp for now and have a think about it . Ironically I used to own one of the Marshall shredder pedals quite a few years back . Re Steve Harris strings . I always fancied trying a set as I like flats but they are quite a heavy gauge , 55-120 something like that .

So with this diet, are you counting calories or can you eat what you want as long as you stick to the list and create a balanced meals set?

I used to have one of those. It's one of the few basses I never bonded with and subsequently offed. I liked the look and feel of the bass, and the QC was top notch. However, I found it's weak point to be the exact thing that everyone else raves about the bass - it's preamp. It does in fact deliver tons of tones but I found myself gravitating to the passive tone 90% of the time because it sounded so much better in the mix than any of the active settings. At the end of the day I found I could get equally good or better passive sounds from my Gibsons and better active sounds from my Alembics, Warwicks and Spectors. So off it went. YMMV.
