As much as love to hear Aretha Franklin sing, why is she considered the "Queen" when Gladys is second fiddle to her or anyone? Aretha was likely my favorite singer for a number of years. But when she was PO'ed when someone else was referred to as "Queen" she made it known SHE was the "Queen." Always loved Gladys as well. Mavis tops for me.

hmmm…..….

Gladys is not second fiddle to anybody.
Ego, and narcissism. The worst qualities to be had in any singer's or guitarists repertoire...
Normally, but in the case of Aretha, she earned the right.

Fluid is easy-peasy if you do it right :p

Something under connections (rag) to catch drips when hoses disconnected;
little rubber caps on reservoir fittings;
since it's a new pump, to flush old fluid (not super easy with the hydro-boost) - one hose in a container, a bit of compressed air to the other (gently!);
install new pump & new fluid;
run engine with return disconnected, into container, until new fluid comes out;
connect return, top off fluid.

Done appropriately, minimal mess to clean up :D

What increases the level of difficulty with this style is
1) flushing the old fluid out of the whole system, since it encompasses both the power steering box & hoses AND the power brake booster & hoses, and;
B) because of the dual nature of the system, there are dual fluid return lines going to the pump reservoir :meh:

Yes, it is :thumbsup:

Sort of.

It's actually the same tool, that has several different configurations, two of which do both of those jobs :)

......I have (at least) one, around here somewhere.....

UGH. transmissions :banghead: :rollno: :thumbsdown:
Nothing like wrestling with a tranny under the car.

hmmm…..….

I can't even say how many times I have stolen the little treble rising figure the bass does in that song. And what it is what it is what it is what it is has to be one of the best backup lines, next to sockittome sockittome sockittome sockittome in Respect. I played both of those songs with a couple of women whose voices would curl up your socks. I had to really pay attention to playing and not just listen to them singing. That was an absolute blast, especially when we had a horn section. That band did the Gladys Knight version of Heard It Through the Grapevine, too. Those two women were about the best voices I have ever backed.

Well.....in pretty much any situation/area/industry/whatever where someone is significantly less common than the "normal", there's always going to be more attention recieved.

Good, bad, and mediocre.

Fair or not, it's the way it is.

I understand about not wanting to be perceived as different, to be treated just like everyone else, but.....humans don't much do that naturally on their own.
If we did, nothing would ever be considered special - for example, in rock music, thunderbirds are common enough they don't draw too much attention, but they're pretty uncommon to see in, say, a hillbilly bluegrass band. Draws more attention, not necessarily positive.

With people, it's more difficult, and different. Some, like Este Haim, don't appreciate being singled out the way she is (even though, I've seen a lot of attention given over the years to men guitar/bass/piano/etc players who make... interesting faces); someone else in a similar position may thrive on the attention.

But, since she's made it clear? (not sure how wide-spread that interview is?) that she doesn't like it, people should respect her wishes, and make less of a big deal about it.
Find somebody that doesn't mind it, or even enjoys having those sort of memes done, instead.

Just my opinion, and hopefully that makes any sense (it's clear in my head, expressing it in words is a bit challenging) and answers your question?
This guy made a career out of his.

Well, a healthy ego is needed for any entertainer - it's more the level beyond that which can be criticized. Even an 'emo' singer sings in front of an audience - if they had no ego, they wouldn't be able to perform.

As Skyhooks sung in 1975, “Ego is not a Dirty Word”.

If I did not have an ego I would not be here tonight
If I did not have an ego I might not think that I was right
If you did not have an ego you might not care the way you dressed
If you did not have an ego you'd just be like the rest
Ego is not a dirty word
Ego is not a dirty word
Ego is not a dirty word
Don't you believe what you've seen or heard

Legendary Australian ARIA Hall of Fame singer Renee Geyer (69) has died after hip surgery.
IMO She was bloody good. Such a shame 69 isn’t that old.

Australian soul singer Renee Geyer dies aged 69

“Throughout her career, Geyer became a sought-after vocalist, working with Sting, Joe Cocker and Chaka Khan, among others.”
It is a terrible month. Remember this?

I think the weather will let me paint tomorrow…
If you lived here it wouldn’t.

I was just getting by in '08. The floor fell in for me. Scheduled painting jobs were cancelled and I was left scrambling for employment to pay rent. I had to cut my hourly wage in half to keep working/bring income in. Those people who employed me then got a very good deal ~

I agree about debt - and since then I only own a debit card. (no cc - no credit - no debt)

What's the best bass for firewood? (yah, I know... a 7ender bass... :rolleyes:)

Almond was $400 a cord in September. It’s now $500. I’m thinking Glarry makes the best bass for firewood.
