Was looking at some distortion pedal postings over at the Spector club and saw this clip. Watching the first demo (about 1 minute long) I scratched my head and thought, this is possibly the best demo I’ve seen for stress testing the limits of a B string. Those poor strings are just getting bludgeoned to death as he beats his bass into submission. Sounds good, if that’s the type of distortion you’re after, but I gotta believe his tuning doesn’t hold for more than a couple of songs at that pace.
…overall it’s a pretty good review of different Dark Glass distortion pedals. I just have to look past the players style, which is about polar opposite of mine.
I can't help but think playing that hard would never happen had someone not seen someone else do it. Seems to be an observed and learned approach and not something one would naturally do. Most play harder than I do, but even then it's still a normal kind of thing, and not a beating the bass into submission. In the vids posted, V plays hard, but it seems normal and still very natural.
