It's funny, maybe because it was 'change', many players didn't like the pops and didn't for many years. Now, everybody loves pops! What's not to like?

My favorite tuners are reverse tuners, cloverleafs, I like lollipop tuners though too. Reverse tuners are easier to turn to me and more natural once you get used to them, not many people agree with that though as far as I can see.

Yes, I'm aware. Fender's calendar (at least then) began in July. The dot & bound J introduced in January '66 changed to block & bound in July '66, and why it is more sought after as it was only made for 6 months. CBS also introduced the in-house produced "lollypop" tuners on it which turned up on a few late '65 J's. So regardless of the sale to CBS, July of '65 is when Fender/CBS officially changed in terms of production.

Another detail/indication of that transition was the "Offset Contoured Body" decal which moved from next to the Fender decal to the top of the hs. This started to be seen in late '65, after CBS officially took over at Fender.

Here in the Bay Area for a 'corporate' coffee shop, it's Peet's. (originally partners with Starbucks - but much better) There used to be a good chain called Tully's, but they're gone now. There's also (independent) Phil's here in the Mission (original location) a couple blocks away which has been around for a while. There's a few branches now. And many, many small coffee shops - everywhere.

I like Peet’s. I’ll go to Starbucks with someone I want to spend time with who loves Starbucks (usually for their specialty drinks full of syrups). Outside of home, I prefer certain local shops. None of the chains excite me.

To me a functional tuner is a functional tuner, I like em all as long as they work properly. I do have a soft spot for lollipops though, just a simple but attractive look. As for reverse tuners, no problem with with those either. Although, one of the times I broke a string while tuning on a bass equipped with reverse tuners. I’m looking at my rack tuner over my right shoulder and loosening (I thought) the G string that was currently running sharp. In reality I had my hand on the D string tuner and I was accidentally tightening with obviously no change to the G string pitch, then snap, there went the D string (cobalt flats, unforgiving strings in over tension situations). Clearly all my fault, no problem with the tuners.

I had a '66 J neck with lollipop tuners on a 67-68 P bass, was my main bass for years.

We saw Ricky Skaggs, Asleep at the Wheel, and Manhattan Transfer on the same bill at Austin City Limits. For the finale, they all took the stage together. Super crowded, but amazing. We ended up on an elevator with Cindy Cashdollar. Very cool, down to earth person.

The stubby tuners on my '68 Coral Deluxe Bass and Silvertone 1443 Hornets are reverse-wind. (Dano made) Sorta' odd as the late '60s is when most reverse-wind tuners, reversed. My '66 P clover-tuners are also reverse. Once Fender/CBS switched to the more modern-plate tuners - they were reversed.

When I was 'dating', Starbucks was a neutral meeting place for a introductory 'date'. Haven't been in one since.

That’s one wood that I’ve always wanted to try but just haven’t go around to it yet.

My Factorbird fretless body was cut from old growth Koa. It's similar to ebony - a very hard, dense, heavy wood. It has very tight grain, so shapes well. It has darkened over time. (since the late '90s)
