Thunderbird Club

Pretty day in S.F., we're nice at about 71 in Seattle today.
and then Jim West popped up…..

I don't think the Kalamazoo Model Two does that. Hmmm... There might need to be a little experimentation. It may have to do with the fact that it's a single sided amp that pushes out 5 watts or less. Probably less at this point. I don't remember how many tubes it has, but a lot less than that Ampeg.

Chuck probably explained by now, but motorboating (in amps) is not desired behavior.

Properly grenaded!

(In my best epic movie voice over)…From the ashes of a glarry burning fire rises the mighty Thunderbird!

I suspect it’s all in the comps.
GC sets their asking prices on completed sales of similar models. Their offering formula is roughly 60% of the anticipated sale price. So if they are asking $400 for these basses (because that’s what the most recent ones listed on their used gear pages sold for) the poor schmuck selling it to GC got less than $250 for it. I wanna find one of those sellers and offer them $260!

There could be a lot of reasons why someone would part with a VP at that insanely low price, one of which is stolen goods. GC does have a “no hot goods” policy, but on a mass produced bass like a VP it would be very difficult to ever enforce that policy.

Except none of them are labeled as VPs. The stores (and apparently sellers) just have no idea what these are. They're labeled as less expensive instruments.

That's a hell of a collection. I like those old Japanese basses with lots of unique style.

I think I've shown this one, maybe here and probably on the distressed finishes thread.

I made the neck. based loosely on the teisco del Rey neck. 32" scale again. Body is of unknown origin. Old, plywood, and likely Japanese.
