Thunderbird Club

Haven’t been to Greece in like fifteen years. We had a good time. Real estate on Rhodes for a place on the beach was ridiculously cheap. Like 125k. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. But we were putting two kids through college, so we didn't pursue it. And we had no clue at the time that our daughter would end up going with the airlines for a career. BTW, she will be starting pilot training this year.
We flew to Martha's Vineyard for a wedding. When we boarded the plane I noticed two female pilots doing pre check. I told Mrs. Gator that at least they wont be arguing about directions. Both ladies cracked up. :)
Congratulations on your future pilot.

Ive tried the “using it several times right away” trick, didn’t it work for me. Word association worked a bit better - at least I could remember the word I associated the name with, still couldn’t remember the name though. But thanks, Shaquille Foot, I’ll keep on trying. :D

You said it, Brook Farms, we’re in this boat together. Hell, I can remember an entire bass line but for some reason can’t recall the name of the song. I’ll just blame it on age, I used to blame it on drugs, but I’m so old now I can’t even remember which drugs I was taking in my youth. :D
Yeah George it's an age thing I guess. Mrs. Gator and I are only nine days apart in age. Here's a conversation we had...

MG..What is the name of that band that I like..you were playing a song yesterday.
Gator.. Can you give me a hint?
MG.. I think the band name starts with a B.
Gator.. ZZ Top?
MG..Yeah! That's it!

:)

Thanks. She has a ways to go as she’ll be doing the training part-time, at least at the beginning.

That's great. I hope she enjoys it. She knows as well as anyone what she getting into. If she can get on at UPS, their pay is ridiculous. Their bonuses are far above what most people would hope to get in a year. Or two. Best paid in the industry. Until contract talks, then it seems they make $13.00 hr.

I’m not looking into modding. I am broke so cannot afford a Sterling or similar. I’m looking for any suggestions about volume position and EQ etc. I know it won’t sound the same, but getting in the general ball park odd good enough for me.
I had one. No real way IMO. They sound like they do because of the pickup and it's placement. Neither can be approximated very well. Cut some lows and tinker with mids and highs is about all you can do.

I think the song is about the one in Tennessee.
Ok, I checked with Wikipedia:
There has been much speculation regarding which city of Jackson the song is about, but Wheeler said: "Actually, I didn’t have a specific Jackson in mind. I just liked the sharp consonant sound, as opposed to soft-sounding words like Nashville." Though Wheeler had no particular Jackson in mind when writing the song, some subsequent singers have specified Jackson, Tennessee. The previous source also quotes Charlie Daniels as having recorded "Jackson" with these lines, "I ain't talking 'bout Jackson, Mississippi. I'm talking 'bout Jackson, Tennessee". And, Johnny Cash is quoted in the video from the same source: "Well, I was gonna take her down to see Carl Perkins in Jackson." Carl Perkins lived in Jackson, Tennessee.

A nice Stingray is a welcome addition to a diverse arsenal. I prefer the tone from a single H. They are the pride of SLO. I want a nice one, just haven’t found one yet. I am confident that with the Mesa TT800, the Mesa M6 Carbine, and rhecSVT, I can find the tone that work. Npmayby this or next year.
I wanted one, and a Ric for a long time. Had a regular SR I ordered and a 5er (HH). Liked the 5er way better as far as tone. Have none of them now and don't miss them. YMMV.

Agreed. Responsible for many lives and lots of property, both on and off the Big Steel Thing, and having to deal with lots of yahoo drivers. Just as pilots have things to deal with that bus drivers don't, bus drivers have things to deal with that pilots don't.
My Dad was a city bus driver for 40 years. Was well paid and as he got more seniority he could pick the crazy easy runs. One thing he hated was the union--because it was nearly impossible to get horrible workers/drivers fired. Literally. When they were fired, 75% would be back in a short time. Made everyone's job more difficult covering and dealing with people who should not have been there in the first place.

Tell me more!
It is a wild guess on my part. A Ray has a bright, yellow-orange sound. Or that is what I remember anyway. It has been a while. An envelope follower is more or less an auto-wah pedal that can push the sound into a more processed, brighter, orange quality. Take a listen to one at a shop if you can. There is a high likelihood that I am not remembering the Ray sound quite right and it may not be what you are thinking anyway.

For what it is worth, an envelope follower and octaver can get an upright bass into more or less Fender Rhodes territory. Pedals do all kinds of things.

Unions aren't all they're cracked up to be.
I know, i'm part of one.

I have a 1979 Stingray all original in very good condition that plays wonderfully. It was my main bass before I switched to Tbirds. For a single pup bass you can get an amazing number of very useable tones out of it, the key for me was to tame the top end with some black beauties. For the right price she might be for sale to a good home.

Ok. I’m
Julianna knows a lot of people. She may go that route for awhile. But a major airline gig, with union protection, is her ultimate goal.
Having had a number of pilot friends in both the commercial and corporate ranks, I’d say the ones that flew jets for the corporations were much happier about their jobs and the pay and Bennie’s seemed to as good with the perks even better. No dealing with obnoxious travelers or bizarre airline mandates, rarely more than a few hour flight. The corporate guys were like personal staff for the top company leadership, and as such were always kept on regardless of the budget cuts and downsizing going on elsewhere in the company.

I have a metric poopieload of pedals but don't use them
Yeah, they seem like a good idea at the time. And I almost never sell anything. They are great for six string guitar, at least for me. But I never play a six string guitar much, let alone an electric one. Maybe when I retire, I'll get around to learning to play the treble thing.

OK, so a metric poopie load of guitars and pedals. Amps, too?

not so much into the amp thing, but I got a couple and some of them I like...

I do like octave and phaser for bass but don't use it much
