Thunderbird Club

Y'all may recall that I bought the Epi Embassy to semi-retire the 67 NR from gigging. And I like the the Embassy. With them 760s it's a fine sounding bass. But...I've tooken the NR on a few gigs lately and reminded myself-right there in front of people-what a fine instrument it is. So, fork(sp?) it, I'm gonna play the thing 'til the h.s. flies across the room and 'beans' someone.

ever wonder who owned it before and what it was traded in for?…..there couldn’t have been many owners before you right?….must have been in almost almost brand new condition when you got it and you are probably one of the few people in the world who experienced an almost brand new first gen TBird….. pretty trippy…:thumbsup:

No way of knowing(that I know of). I got it in early '73-b4 any h.s. damage-while it still had the serial #(513096) on it. I've had it since then through many years of gigging 6 nights/week, and even more nights of gigging 1 or 2 nights/week. It's prolly just as well it can't talk about some of its/my (mis)adventures.;) I guess my biggest regret concerning it is that I coulda bought the blue NR that was next to it in the shop-I had enuff $-but I'm not a fan of blue basses(sorry, @MCF). Oh, well. In the words of that great philosopher Cher, "If I Could Turn Back Time"...

agree on every point sir…some ran those type preamp tubes on 12Vdc back in the 90’s….doesn’t sound like anything ever came of that as it turns into a completely different device….marketing hype? probably, I just don’t know enough about that mode of operation to anticipate any of what he says…..sounds good on the clip….that said, not better than any other decent fretless tone out there so….

Thanks for your insights C - I just thought it looked interesting and it was tastefully/well designed.

I’m getting jazz vibes! As a rock/metal its not my thing, but it’s still beautiful.

It is and every bass-player needs to own at east one hollow-body! There's no way a solid-body can sound like that.

When it comes to pristine jaw dropping scenic beauty nothing beats a Pacific Northwest beach (anything an hour north of San Francisco all the way to Canada). When it comes to beautiful sexy people watching, warm sun and big beaches it’s hard to beat Malibu or Santa Monica. If it’s a freak show you’re after look no further than Venice or Muscle Beach. If you’re considering surfing then don’t miss Hawaii or Mavericks at Half Moon Bay. If you want to wade out into the surf a couple hundred yards into warm crystal clear water you’d best stay away from the west coast, save that for the east coast and gulf or better yet visit any one of a thousand different places in Hawaii or Polynesia or the Caribbean or Australia or… you name it.
Yeah, Oz has 11 thousand beaches on its own…

I like the '70-'73 much better too, the SD455 is stock, all original so it's worth some $$$, he (my buddy, Bill) has this '71 as well, he says he's going to sell it - which makes me sad 'cause it's my fave.

Will he swap it for a bass?

That’s the front I like, then the 77ish one. Not so much the 74 and 79 styles but this beggar wouldn’t be choosy

At first thought for rounds, maybe something round core Boomer RCs, Sunbeams, etc. Pure nickels of some kind also might be the opposite of the aggressiveness of the EBCFs. All the above would have great lows, some soft highs but subtle mids, in my experience.

DTF’s???
