Thunderbird Club

I toyed around with a similar idea back about ten years ago but quickly abandoned it after I realized that it could all be done much more effectively and efficiently with a pedal and there’s dozens of options out there to choose from.

I’m still green with envy over that Jackson.

They encompass the pickup and help shape the magnetic field for a tighter more defined sound with more pronounced attack. A great EQ modifier for pretty much any bass.

BTW - I have a bridge for sale if you’re interested, and it’s not a Hipshot.

Actually I’m looking for an incredibly bright string in this application.

Love me some PJ! That little thing has some serious pipes! Love her style along with Mazzy and PET and NY Loose and a dozen other hard rockin female lead singer bands from the 1990’s to the 2010’s. Should be a great show.
We should go. Fly up in the Porsche. You drive, I’ll pay for tickets. You need to meet @Ringhammer anyway.

Insurance paid for my '78 P as well. About $1'200 I think they gave me (about 2x what I paid for it). The adjuster was a guitar player and really understood instrument prices. It was actually a good thing. I had not played for a little over 20 years and not even touched a bass during that time. I kept being asked to play but pushed it off. I let a guy at church use the bass and it was stolen from there. Not his fault at all. When I had to do the research to suggest it's worth and get numbers on my side for the church insurance, I really began to realize how much I missed playing and got sucked back in. In that respect, that bass bass getting stolen was absolutely one of the best things that ever happened. I love playing.

Bonus: Had it not been stolen, I would have never known anyone here, and that's worth a lot.
Serendipity. Instant Karma.

Had I not walked into GC in October of ‘15, I would not have found the new 2015 Thunderbird on the wall for the blowout $999.99 price. I played it for a minute. I asked the tech (yes, they actually had a qualified tech working that day; he left soon after that and they never replaced him) to tweak the rod a quarter of a turn to straighten the neck. It was love at first play.

Had I not just happened in that day, I may never have joined this club and met so many great friends. Including George. From whom I bought the SVT, the Berg NV 610, the BaCH, and the Breedlove. Or attended two, soon to be three, GTG’s. And met fabulous people in person and through private conversations and phone calls.

Thunderbirds and this club totally rock!

OK, I was thinking of the EBCFs as bright and you wanting to darken up a bit. I'm not a bright string person, but the obvious choice you no doubt though of would be Rotos. SIT SS are pleasingly bright but not harsh and yet sound big. Less mids, I'd say than Rotos. Marshall swears by Dunlop Super Brights. Might be a really good option. An exposed core string could tend to be more clear and bright as well. I love an exposed core E. Those old Fender Super Bass sets were really great.
And SIT Power Steels. The Dunlops have a softer feel to them for those with Princess Fingers.

Another song that was covered here by a local artist. (It was a thing).
In this case Johnny (now John) Farnham. About the first song I remember seeing / hearing that it was him.
Just looked up on wiki. 1970, BJ Thomas peaked at no 20, Farnham’s version was no. 1 for seven weeks.
Australia love Farnham, for over 50 years now. Though I can’t see him returning to singing from his cancer op.

What material should the rings be made of then?

So wish they would do an Epi NR in these colors.
I am doubtful that will happen Brian. The Gibson NR’s are still in production after two plus years. And I’ve got to believe sales have exceeded their expectations. Otherwise they would have stopped making them. I first thought that they would do runs of 400 in each color and that would be it. There is no incentive for them to move NR’s to China and charge 1/3rd the price for them.

The new colours make me almost regret of getting the white one which replaced the broken sunburst bass. Both apparently discontinued now. The inverness green would match perfectly my IG NR.
