I have no idea the mix between the II’s and IV’s. But I know the goal was to keep costs down. It is such a shame only 90 were built. They are wonderful Thunderbirds.

I toyed around with a similar idea back about ten years ago but quickly abandoned it after I realized that it could all be done much more effectively and efficiently with a pedal and there’s dozens of options out there to choose from.
I’m still green with envy over that Jackson.I really meant to catch the date and missed it, this thread started on February 18, 2014, so it's 10 year anniversary was a few days back..............Shall we rock on?

They encompass the pickup and help shape the magnetic field for a tighter more defined sound with more pronounced attack. A great EQ modifier for pretty much any bass.Do the pickup rings have any purpose out are they just aesthetic?
Actually I’m looking for an incredibly bright string in this application.I may not have been as clear as needed in mentioning "Round Cores," not simply rounds. Regular Boomers (virtually all round wounds, in fact) are hex and have more mids and are also a little more stiff. Round cores sound a little bigger, which I suspect is because the round cores have less pronounced mids.
Possibly you have clarified and I haven't gotten that far yet, but are you thinking darker or brighter; more or less mids? Flats maybe?
Love me some PJ! That little thing has some serious pipes! Love her style along with Mazzy and PET and NY Loose and a dozen other hard rockin female lead singer bands from the 1990’s to the 2010’s. Should be a great show.Just scored tix for PJ Harvey coming to the SF Masonic in October. While her current and previous records are not necessarily the stuff she does that I like, it is on a Friday night and I can always hope she’ll bring out some really early stuff as well as stuff from “Stories from the City,…” , “Let England Shake” and “White Chalk”
…marketed as “An evening with…” makes me hope for a long or split set with no opener. Maybe that make for time for a lot of older material.
Somebody say mustang?!?!The only ones I’d sell aren’t worth much. A heavy as all get out Ibby Ergodyne, the 7ender Mustang, and the 7ender PJ. $1400 total. If I’m lucky.
Insurance paid for my '78 P as well. About $1'200 I think they gave me (about 2x what I paid for it). The adjuster was a guitar player and really understood instrument prices. It was actually a good thing. I had not played for a little over 20 years and not even touched a bass during that time. I kept being asked to play but pushed it off. I let a guy at church use the bass and it was stolen from there. Not his fault at all. When I had to do the research to suggest it's worth and get numbers on my side for the church insurance, I really began to realize how much I missed playing and got sucked back in. In that respect, that bass bass getting stolen was absolutely one of the best things that ever happened. I love playing.I would be too…my 72 P got stolen out of a HS band locker!..some definite hanky panky on that one…..at least insurance got that one covered and allowed for my first Ricky…
A rare non-bird has shown up…. I only had to do an even trade for the most expensive base geetar I ever bought….
but I got me a 1979 Rickenbacker 4001FL. I had to trade my Rickenbacker 4003AC for it, but I honestly never thought I’d get a factory fretless.
now I just need a 64-67ish non reverse thunderbuzzard II and I’ll be ready to take over the known universe.
and maybe that ripper that @Ringhammer posted earlier
Yes when I was doing design work Marketing made the promises and the Engineers had to make it happen! Let’s just say they were good at making unobtainium sound real and affordable!have to often remind my colleagues we are not writing dissertations but there to sell wafers….
OK, I was thinking of the EBCFs as bright and you wanting to darken up a bit. I'm not a bright string person, but the obvious choice you no doubt though of would be Rotos. SIT SS are pleasingly bright but not harsh and yet sound big. Less mids, I'd say than Rotos. Marshall swears by Dunlop Super Brights. Might be a really good option. An exposed core string could tend to be more clear and bright as well. I love an exposed core E. Those old Fender Super Bass sets were really great....Actually I’m looking for an incredibly bright string in this application.

Thank you. Most black guitars don't do it for me, but I love that.
Next time I cross the pond, a side trip there is on the list.Yes, Andertons was the next site I visited after Epiphone’s…
ok, that does it….so if we moved the GTG to Louisville would you show up?Insurance paid for my '78 P as well. About $1'200 I think they gave me (about 2x what I paid for it). Bonus: Had it not been stolen, I would have never known anyone here, and that's worth a lot.

BTW - I have a bridge for sale if you’re interested, and it’s not a Hipshot.

Seems to be some unrest in Mustangs here? I have a 1973 all original one for sale:

Starting high, because I have someone that says they will pay that, after they sell something, but I don’t necessarily believe that deal will come through.
62What year is that bass?
I have a similar thing going on.
And there is a rout for a mudbucker.
Was already there when I got the bass.

Very much so.That one sure looks well loved. I bet it's a blast to play.
What's the tension like in those compared to the Rotos?[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
These are similar to the rotos I mentioned
I played them once YEARS ago to have an idea about the rotos before buying them. I couldn't tell you if I wanted. Hex core means they're probably at least medium stiff though. But I liked them enough to go ahead and pay for the rotos. I loved those. What's the tension like in those compared to the Rotos?
Mustangs are nice basses. I got my ‘68 in ‘73. I paid $250.00 for it. I sold it for $500 in ‘83 when I was heading off to grad school. It was in decent shape, but showed wear. That, and the $600 I got for my Kasino amp and cab made my first year doable without having to go into debt. Oh well, live and learn.Seems to be some unrest in Mustangs here?
