Lots of primo guitars (including many Les Pauls) are made with veneers.

My first Rush album was "Caress Of Steel" and it's still the dearest. It's strange, it rocks and it was my gateway to progressive rock. Geddy's singing was a bit of a shock but I got used to it about a minute in "Bastille Day". And Alex' solo on "No One At The Bridge" is just brilliant.

Yes, it didn't sell, they smoked a lot of weed when making it, Paul Stanley didn't get it and the epic doesn't flow (true, but it should be taken as individual songs strung together under "The Fountain Of Lamneth" banner and also the cd should have separate indexes).
I also like "I Think I'm Going Bald" which isn't about Kim Mitchell but Alex Lifeson stressing about his hair (he was 20 years early with his thoughts). It does sound a bit like Max Webster and it rocks plus the lyrics are down to earth and great.

I was introduced to them by a friend with the first two albums when Fly by Night came out. Fly was the first song I heard and I was hooked.

Operatic was just my attempt at humor. You are right in that his voice changed over time. Puberty, maybe. (More poor humor!) The later material I never even think about his voice as it just fits. I certainly cannot sing any better, under any circumstances.

One of the things I love about live music is hearing the raw take on what happened in the studio. IIRC, it was some time after the Moving Pictures album that Rush started considering how they would play songs live as they worked in the studio. Until then, they just tried to figure it out when rehearsing a live show.

And I love hearing covers (and I would argue that every band doing their own material is a cover band who happened to record the original) to see different/unusual takes. Devo's take on (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction is simultaneously recognizable as a cover and a completely different song.

Yeah, even for albums where I love every note, I don't go to a concert to hear that reproduced.

I used in-ears on stage for the first time last night. It was so nice to have the mix I want! And I could hear all of my bass tone.
My hands are often sore after a gig because I play much harder to hear myself. But having enough bass in my mix meant I could just play normally.
The drummer was concerned that it would affect communications between band members, but that wasn't an issue.
The only problem was the wire. I move around too much, so it's wireless for me.

GHS Boomers - VP, but currently GHS Flats, Dean Markely Blue Steels also sound great.
SIT Power Steels - VP
'64 SIT Power Wounds (which sound good on most anything)

My favorite rounds are EBCFs so I'm no help.

Unless... if you want the Angry Piano sound, Roto 66 (long) are The Answer. It was interesting, but not something I really need. Others wear them to devastatingly awesome effect.
