Thunderbird Club

Got thinking about all the earthquakes in the news recently - South America, Mexico City, Japan, who's next? Seeing that SoCal is in a bit of an EQ zone, it could be us. Pretty much everything in the house of value is bolted down or EQ proofed as good as possible except my basses hanging on the wall. I use Hercules wall hangers, which are a captive hanger that you have to lift the bass out of to unlock, so they shouldn't easily fall to the floor but they could get swinging pretty good and bang into each other or the wall and end up doing a lot of damage to the instrument.

Enter a cheap (and somewhat cheesy looking) solution...

I had a bunch of Guitar gig bags that I wasn't using, being shorter than a bass bag the guitar bag allows the headstock to stick out far enough to still use with the wall hangers. Added benefit - less dust, dirt and sun messing with the finish and strings of the basses. So as long as they don't fall off the wall they are completely protected from being banged around in an earthquake. Kind of a neat little hack for those of you in similar situations.

PS - Obligatory Gibson content front and center.

Exposing the Den I see, very nice indeed Mr. G.

Or just local rock shows. On top of seeing great local talent, you get to meet LOTS of cool people that share your love of music. Plus, it supports the next generation. Go see local talent!
Exactly what I was saying.

Barring extreme cases (like Gary Glitter)... I don't really give a crap about their political views, business practices, etc. I judge the music separately from the individual performing it. A murderer on death row is capable of painting a picture as beautiful as Rembrandt could... as can a butcher, baker, or candlestick maker. do I like KISS? Yes (the old stuff). Do I like Gene Simmons? HAYL naw!
I will enjoy artists whose views I find repulsive in the same way I enjoy the works of Richard Wagner... once they're good and dead.

Very attractive to katburglars.
That's ok, my home security system is set to deliver high velocity lead poisoning to any unwanted intruders. ;)
However, if a specific Katburglar from downunder should happen to be in the neighborhood I'd greet said burglar with a few cold pints and a full run through the music den.

I'm kinda in the same boat. Ignorance is bliss for me. If all I know about an artist is their music I'm good to go (especially if I like the music). But as soon as they start spewing personal politics or religion or involve themselves in other lightening rod issues I'm obligated to lump that info in part and parcel to my opinions of said artist, at which time they are either admired and supported by me or they become an unwelcome unwanted waste of talent.
"Shut up and sing" is a pretty safe road to follow, I'm still amused by the number of artists that can't stay on that road.

Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar!

New development. In short, I'm back in the band.

What set it back on track was the singer deciding he wanted to come back.

If it was just the guitar player alone I was 50/50 at best in considering it.

The whole dynamic has changed. I will have to see if it really stays better, but efforts are being made.

Ironically, we are also looking for a drummer. As the drummer did end up leaving, that was confirmed in a facebook message that came in from him while the guitarist and I were talking in the parking lot after the singer left. Drummer is going on tour.

Also the singer is not going to be doing as many gigs due to his voice issues, so we will be using a sub singer so we can still play about 2x a month rather than once every 6-8 weeks which is what the singer is willing to do at least until he feels better about his vocal health.

So the upcoming gig we had Oct 7 has been rebooked because the promoter got antsy (I don't blame him). At least I know there is a good paying gig in December, and at least some money October 28, but quite a drive.

Nov 4 is a benefit show, that we would be doing with another singer if so.

Just hoping the sub drummer can do Oct 28, he might have another gig. We are probably holding drum auditions for the 3rd time since I have been in the band, soon.

Always the drummer...

Yeah, I know. I just find it kind of odd that someone else, approved or not, continued the trilogy

Happens a bit. There is another part to the Girl Dragon Tattoo series now.

A Midnight Oil concert I was at was near ruined by Peter Garrett preaching his politics.

Whosoever playeth this bass, is automatically a total badass::cool:
