My preference is the preEB viariant with the two band preamp because it's so easy to get a good sound out of. But it looks like you have the newer three band model. If that's the case, what you'll find is the mid knob is constantly at odds with the bass and treble knobs. Outside of replacing the three band preamp with a two band model the next best thing is to set the mid knob at the halfway point or less, drop the treble knob down to 50% or less and bump the bass knob up to your taste. Make sure your amp is EQ'd at relatively neutral. It helps if you have the bass strung with non zingy strings - Black Beauties are my favorite.

It "gave me fits" before I cast the demon outa the neck (that was just weird!o_O)

Big tip o' the cap to 'the Bass Shop' in Seattle! They gotta good bunch o' guys over there:thumbsup:

As for the sound... I wouldn't say it's "givin' me fits" really. We just gotta get to know each other. I knew it would be "different"... I just never expected it to be SSSOOO different!

As for strings... I was originally going to seize this as an opportunity to try out some Cobalt Flats. After reading the same review, "round sound flat wound" over & over... I started looking around & found that DR makes what is basically a flat wound version of the High Beams I love so much, so I think I'm gonna go that way...

What are the DR flats that are the equivalent of High Beams?

Well, maybe that too, but only by accident. A P-bass does have a gold-ish, dry sound. One of these days I probably ought to do some kind of scientific study with a tone generator to figure out what frequency is what color. It probably wouldn't work. Pure tones probably wouldn't have a color. Just viscosity.
