Thunderbird Club

I have lotsa local Nashville favorites, but most of them are heavy. There is sooooo much talent in this town, I'm happy to have people tell me they like my band; it's enough to say "they don' think we suck!" That I've been able to be friends with so many local musicians who are just great, cool people is icing on the steak.
A few of my favorites, available on yoot oob and Spottyfries and stuff:
She The Killer - post hardcore. Sound great on record but really have to be seen live!

Shadow Horse - heavy rock. Their album doesn't do them justice compared to their live sound.

Vampire Bleach Bomb - blend of post grunge and bluesy hard rock. Just fun.

Lonesome Town Drifters - pop punk. Saw them open for Less Than Jake, and they blew away everybody else on the show.

Lots of new stuff to check out! :)

Just finished a Derek Hoke gig in Lexington, KY. Had to use backline. The bass player in the opening band provided the rig. I won’t say what it was, but he was quite proud of it for reasons I’ll never understand . Turned out he was a TB genpop dude and everything he had to say was pretty much the ‘common wisdom’ you hear folks repeating. Super nice guy, though. When I plugged into his rig to do soundcheck, the first thing he said was “How did you manage to find a Gibson that isn’t an unplayable POS?”
I said I love mine and he agreed it sounded nice, but added, “You were smart and got a vintage one before they went downhill. What year is that one?” I told him2014. He said I must’ve gotten really lucky to find a decent one. Oh well!

Black Beauty’s sounded great in the band mix. I wish the D and especially the G were slightly higher tension, but overall I was super happy with the strings. Sounded nice

What a dork...! :)

Nothing like 3 chord, Brooklyn R&R. For a Saturday night.

There's another great underrated and forgotten band from the late 70's... :)

One of my favourites is their cover of The Stooges "Search & Destroy":

Bonus points goes to Mark "The Animal" Mendoza for slaying a POS Gibson bass... ;)

I always embrace an opportunity to teach a hipster a lesson.
Punching them in the beard helps, too.
You can also say that you don't care about what they are eating.

Hit them where it hurts - tell them that you heard on NPR that the kale sprouts that they are eating are genetically modified, but it is OK because they are sterilized with radiation before being delivered to wholefoods.

?....

Of course the proper reply to that question is...
It's easy, all you have to do is find a bass player that doesn't have a FSO headstock up his arse and has a bit more talent than opinion, the rest just falls into place.

I really like the Black Beauties... If it weren't for their high price, I would have them on all my basses - But re-stringing 20 basses with them would be a costly affair. So I either use SS Rotosound Swing Bass strings, or Rotosound Roto's, which are fairly cheap to buy.

I too got to liking the Black Beauties. Like them enough that I put Red Devils on the red JC. Once they lose the grippiness, they play really nicely and they haven't gone dead yet.

By way of contrast, I tried Fat Beams. They sound good new, but started dying after about 6 weeks. Don't seem to last as long as other strings I have tried.

Well, I couldn't stand it and bought a new Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro. This thing is absolutely amazing! I think Epi has hit a home run with this bass!

Here's my Vintage Sunday pic.......
At this point I had not yet made any "Big Hair" wigs so the Tank Driver hat was part of the on stage ensemble, the '77 had been recently re finned, but the crap #@% Allparts bridge was giving me fits by causing string breakage at a phenomenal rate. The original PG hadn't been replaced yet either, though that came soon after. The street sign is legit, Thunderbird Dr is very near my home

That street sign would be in my bass room.

Ok guys I'll play vintage Sunday! I have a pretty complete early years collection, it documents my path to Thunderbirds, '72-'76.
When I first told my parents I wanted to play bass they rented me a pos Kingston Jazz bass wanna be. Horrible bit of work but after 3-4 months of sticking with it I was rewarded with a Klira Violin bass and Ampeg ReverbRocket II amp for my birthday day. It would be years before I knew how good the Klira was and how lucky I didn't end up with a Japanese Hofner knock off. Even as a kid I knew that the Klira was a very nice bit of work. So here they are, my first two basses in a very long journey . The Kingston I bought of ebay about 8 years ago to round out my early years collection, every bit as bad as I remembered. The Klira is my first real bass, unfortunately as a teen I "improved it with Gibson SB pickups " . I will keep posting over the coming weeks my path to Thunderbirds.
