On with 20 questions:
How do you guys go about learning a new song you are covering? Do you do it on your own to a CD before working it out with the band or do you just sit down together and learn it?

Where are the other 19? Or if that counts, 18? Uh oh...
Anyway, yes.
I've done it both ways. Although these days it's at least as likely to be streaming as on a CD. It somewhat depends on the song. If the bass part and/or timing are complicated, I'd rather have some time to work on it alone. Listen, repeat. Play along, repeat. Listen, repeat. Go til I've got it or am fed up. Repeat til comfy enough to rehearse with others. If the bass part and timing are reasonably simple, I actually prefer to work stuff out with the band, at least first pass.
