Thunderbird Club

:cool:Actually I've been told I'm a phenomenal player (or was that nominal, I don't remember, but that's not important right now). What is important is that I'm positive I'm completely limited by my gear. I mean, we all know the inherent design flaws with any bass Gibson ever made :)woot:just ask the TB GenPop) rendering the Thunderbird nearly unplayable. And don't even get me started on Fender flaws.:rollno:

Being a bass playing child prodigy (or was that a child that needed prodding, I don't remember, but that's not important right now) without a bass until I turned 45 did set me back a bit on the fame and stardom scale. But heck, all I need to reach my full potential now is a top of the line Ritter, with real gold hardware and incrusted in diamonds. I'm sure I'd sound much better on that. Everyone could see with their own eyes :wideyed:just how good I sound.

:sorry:Alas, until my starving bass player Go-Fund-Me site exceeds $100,000 so I can buy that Ritter, I'm destined to continue wallowing along playing gear that completely stifles my artistic talent:unsure:. Yep, I'm blaming it on the "suck" switch wiring, the TBird ergonomics and the Fender Tort.:cautious:

:cigar:Remember, it's a poor craftsman that blames his tools. :yawn:My tools are just fine, it's the basses that suck.;)
Dang! Now I gotta clean Mountain Dew offa the monitor:roflmao::roflmao:

I've been meaning to post a photo of my Epi Classic for a while so, finally here it is. This has been my main player for a good 18 months now. So easy to play and rocks hard. I'm currently on the lookout for a Vintage but it could be a while as I don't like buying new instruments if I can avoid it.

So I guess the Vintage in ebony was on sale for a few days on Sweetwater, per a post I saw on here, but when I finally got around to seriously thinking about pulling the trigger, it was back to the regular price.

You’re a funny guy G.

I knew I should have bought that new fancy schmancy EBMM Stingray that just came out when I wanted to see what Rays were about. Instead I picked up a never played Sterling SUB Ray 4 some weeks ago with the pickguard plastic still on it to mess around with. $200. I guess I’ll never be a decent player.

...

Anyway, it was his Magellan/Array stack i was glad to see  Aaaaand here's just a gratuitous shot (i also pilfered from FB) of my mitts on that Ricky >

My assumption as well.

My tongue in cheek post was meant as satire for all the folks that assume if they had the best gear out there they would be a drastically better player. My experience is, unless there is something seriously wrong with your bass it's probably not limiting you. Sure an expertly set up bass that feels comfortable in your hands and responds well to your playing style will always make it easier to play and consequently a bit better sounding because you're not fighting it. However, I've personally experienced handing an unquestionably better player one of my beater basses and he made it sing better than the best I could do on my best bass.

Bottom line, assuming there's nothing wrong with the bass or the rig, the quality of the sound and playing is at least 90% determined by the skill of the player. That last 10% is a function of the rig, bass, electronics and strings. IMHO

Agreed. A great player can sound good on anything. For the rest of us, if we have a decent instrument[1] that's set up well[1], everything else is up to us.

[1] Doesn't have to be great.

I think attendees were lining up to try your 360.
They did that a couple times before. As I recall, there were a couple guys who messed with the EQ until it sounded like a farted out Ampeg. That's pretty hard to do, but it can be done. I heard it happen.

I totally got you. But sometimes, i'm not exactly making my thoughts clear at times.
I run off a bit as you all well know. Of course with the best of intentions. :)
