Thunderbird Club

I love Rickenbackers, especially 4001s. I do love to toss a little trash talk at 7ender but, really we all should be playing what makes us happy regardless of the name on the headstock :)

Cleaning up the fingerprints on my VP today, I noticed the Rotosounds appear to be contacting the pickup covers at some points in my playing....Kerang!

The covers do look pretty high. I don’t know those pickups. Is there much of a gap between the top of them and the cover? If not, I’m surprised you’re not getting a ”chorusy”effect.

I’m not getting that chorus effect. I have other basses with string marks on the pickups - I tend to dig in pretty hard sometimes.

Since @dukeorock & @JJR58 are showing their new basses I figured I could post this, since I just got it back from the shop:

I had the neck pick up moved so that it is 1 1/2 inches from the base of the neck. WAY more low end. It was almost five inches from the neck previously.

I also added a MIJ Jazz neck, 62 Re-Issues, new pickguard from Warmouth and Schaller tuners. This bass sounds so much better with the Lollar pickus now in the "correct" spots!

Here is how the pickups were configured before:

I may add the pickup ring depending. Its a dummy that is glued on.

So after a slight modification, it fits. Not the greatest i might add, as this bass has been built with a slightly larger than normal body so it kinda presses the case a little outwards But my Epi bird fits with no problem, just need to stick a piece of foam under the neck for it to be raised properly. & i can carry my other basses in this too. Overall win, for a used case.

That looks like a better built case than the ones they list now.

Did you get that case used?! If not from where?! I’ve been looking for that style coffin case ever since I got my Warlock!

prolly look better w/o the neck pickup ring. Something about those humbuckers flush with the pickguard that looks really cool..

I dig both versions  - the original (modification) is very G&L and the later is more Rick pu position. I'm partial to that L-2000 pu position but only with their pu's and pre. Both are good but I bet the bassier N-pu position is cool. :bassist:
