Happy New Year everyone!

I’m super excited to NOT have a NYE gig tonight! Netflix and red wine with the girl will be my party tonight and I’m thrilled :)
Happy New Year to you and the girl. I had one, but it was the perfect gig. We played at a "retirement community." Most of our audience could barely move, but they were dancing around in their seats as much as they could. We made life a little better for a while for most of them, and that's something. Then we were done by 8. Loaded out and had everything back where it belonged by about 9. Had a couple beers with the band and was home by 11. Rang in the New Year with my wife. Now, I'm hanging out here for a little bit, then back upstairs for the rest of the day to lounge around the fireplace, go for a walk, and whatever else my wife wants to do.

Here's to a wonderful 2019 to all of you, including all who have come and gone. I have enjoyed everyone here. May our Queen reign in peace and prosperity for a long time over our noisy realm.

And to kick off the new year, here's a flock of birds in my backyard...

...maybe if I'm real lucky 2019 might be the year to add a NR to the flock. :D
Four? Huh. I only have the ‘15. I miss the Goth, but gave up on the wonky neck. I had $125 in it and about $5000 worth of my time trying to get it right. My only fail so far in my quest to become a proficient tech. I thought about turning it into 7enderbird, but the purist in me won out and I ended up giving it away at the beginning of the year. I’m expecting another bird will find me at some point this year...hopefully a NR.

Happy New Year to you and all my friends here in our wonderful club!

And a great New Year to you and our TBird brethren as well!

I like my Goth, but its far from stock, it's now a very specialized instrument. Kind of that one tool in your tool chest that doesn't get much use but is a life saver when you need it. The 5 string Spector is a deep and Woolley beast. The Black VP is punchy and edegy and full of aggression. Whereas the Anniversary Bird is a solid all arounder and a safe bet for just about any venue.

In my bass purchases I try to acquire basses that will bring different sounds or a different feel to the song vs all of them sounding alike. So if you look at the four, you'll notice each one has a drastically different pup arrangement and each is strung with drastically different strings. The Spector has EMGs with Chromes, the VP has 760 Probuckers with Fender round nickels, the Goth has Bart's with an active preamp and La Bella black tapes, and the Anniversary has standard TBird Humbuckers with gold plated round wound strings.

If I can find the right NR I might be tempted to put a pre 2013 EB/SG neck pup up against the neck heel like the SG bass does and then a 760 Neck Probucker in the middle position (roughly where the single pup Bird pup is located). I think that would be a sound I don't currently have but could use to great effect.

I feel your pain. I did a build that I thought would really be the one, only to struggle with wandering truss rods, dead spots and a heavy, cumbersome body type. (Me and the bass .)
I guess I’ll always have to settle.

Hadn't put this up for awhile-thought I should.

I don't want it half-assed. I absolutely can half ass things as well as anybody, being both a CroMagnon knuckle dragger and a genetic Appalachian. I can even do a credibly good 3/4 ass job for most things. This one boils down to time and motivation. I have projects that don't involve painting equipment I don't own and skills I would have to develop on the fly lined up, and it's worth it to pay somebody else about half the value of the 'Bird to get it painted.

[edit] Got pricing back. $650 or $800, depending. Ouch, but what the heck. What am I going to do, pay other bills? If I didn't blow the money on paint, I would probably blow more money on another bass guitar or something anyway. I was mostly good that way in 2018, so I have some dumb spending saved up for 2019.

Here is a painted '91 T-Bird.

Gibson Thunderbird Bass 1991 RED | Catz

If I wanted a red one, that one is a far better option. I do not want a color that Gibson ever put on a 'Bird, or if they did, almost none. There are a few Firebirds that color, namely Burgundy Mist, or Heather Poly to use the Gibson name. I believe the Fender color is just a little darker and redder, which is my preference. It is a metallic lilac color, bordering on pink.
