I bet it would be awesome, but I have no experience with the Fusions. What was your bad impression?
Prodigy or StrategyI owned a D800+ for a while that I liked, but eventually moved on. However, I knew almost nothing about bass tone at the time, and I think that the weakest link in that chain (other than the bassist) was the Portaflex cabs I was running it through, as I couldn't get the amp to sound warm.
That said, I've started researching Mesas again, including the D800 or maybe even that new WD800. Or possibly going older and looking at an MPulse or Carbine. I also love the Big Block, but it's got those weird wattage/ohm limitations.
Gotcha. Yeah, you definitely need a reset and to try them again.I think I just didn't like the overall brightness, though this was probably one of their entry level amps, so I'll qualify my first impression in that I didn't have any sort of idea what I was doing. At the time, I think I was playing a FSO or equivalent and didn't like the combo, but I could see how the TB would make it an entirely different story.
Prior to my Ampeg B18, my ACC 371 rig was my 'practice' rigIf you have the space and don't mind weight, vintage solid state can be loud, warm, and reliable. I'm partial to Acoustic Control amps, but old Peavey amps are similar in a lot of ways. The cabinet makes a huge difference. ACC folded horns are called muddy by some, but I find them perfect for what I want to sound like. Loud as FECK if you want them to be, but no louder than you need them to be. Plus, they are cheap for what they can do. The tradeoff is size and weight, which I personally don't mind a bit.

Mom - I suspect you'll find the GK plenty deep and grindy with the right cab. I have a GK 210 combo and it gets deep grindy and more. It replaced an Ashdown 212 combo that got plenty deep but lacked punch and grind. I'd think a Fusion 550 head paired with a nice 412 or 410 cab would be the bees knees!Gotcha. Looks like a fun time!
Also looks like a serious sound challenge with the hard flat ceiling and long narrow room packed at or above capacity. Would love to see a shot of the band, you guys always look so high energy and into the moment. One of these days I'll get up your way to see a show. I still wanna see you rock my Spector bird!

This is true of a lot of things. Not just the amp you use.... the TB would make it an entirely different story.
Thanks. Assumed it would take me to this, not that or the other. Mybad.Click the link and scroll to the top
And, here's Burgundy Mist, on a '61 Cadillac that looks amazingly similar to the '62 my brother had. A 'Bird will look even better. I'm talking myself into this, price be damned, in case anybody didn't notice.

Yeah, I plan on waiting until my flock solidifies (meaning I hold on to a Bird for longer than a few months before getting the next shiny new Bird), but I definitely see a refinish in my future. Gonna go the green (or possibly purple) route sort of like our Queen has on her Birds. I mean, if I'm going to refinish a Bird, I want to make sure everyone knows it.
Unrelated question, but I'm on an amp search after finding I'm unhappy with my Orange 4 Stroke. There's a sort of thudding-click sound I can't seem to EQ out, unless I dial back the compression knob, but then I can't get the full volume out of the amp with the compression set totally to off. Just one of the weird idiosyncrasies of the amp, I guess.
So, I'm looking for something that can approximate that mix of warmth and grind that I love with the compression turned off (but louder, obv). I'm in a "high energy rock band" that's loud and obnoxious, so I'm looking for another amp that fits that mold. Don't like Ampegs that much as they sound too bright to my ears. Any suggestions?
here's the prelim test for my version in pearl sparkle

CURRENT CATALDO
I mixed it from my recollection of the Junior I did in '74. Probably why I can't see sound as color.
