Thunderbird Club

I have been playing my different basses and haven’t quite settled in yet. Originally I had a 5 string signature fretless, and needed a backup, so I bought the Thunderbird. Now I’ve acquired a Squier Jazz Bass.

They all play so differently. I’ve been putting in extra time with the new bird just because it’s such a radical departure from the light touch of my fretless. I am curious if any of you have experimented with TI flats on a Thunderbird. I like the lighter tension on the fretless, and was thinking that may be a good direction. When I had the bird setup I had them throw on DiAddario flats, and they have extremely tight tension. I love the sound, but my fingers are getting one hell of a workout....

I haven't, but I am loving the EB Cobalt flats. I guessed at the set and they're a little low tension; the V needs more front bow. Unfortunately my metric hex keys have disappeared.

Well, the kiddo was having her piano lesson today and as I normally do, I wandered around.

And there I saw them...

Sitting in the used rack...

A pair of Behringer pedals - an OD300 (overdrive distortion) and an OC300 (octave). C$15 each.

Pedal snobs be damned, it's a cheap experiment. I could drink that value in beer in a couple of hours.

So, the octave does not sound good on bass. It might be good on guitar. It will either move on to my brother or will go back (love that 30 day return at L&M, if only I could do the same with beer).

The distortion is noisy. At low gain, it is actually pretty good. But as soon as you bump up that gain knob, it gets way too much gain real fast. It is probably going back. I think I need something klon-ish like an EHX Bass Soulfood.

I bought one Behringer pedal and tried to make it do something that I liked but alas - it's in its box and will most likely stay there as its resale price would amount to losing money on shipping.

I haven't compared them, but did buy after playing one at our local big-box music super-center of the known universe.
After learning that TC Electronic was purchased by Behringer, I'm les impressed with them. Don't know if it's a meaningful sentiment, but I tend to go there. I just wouldn't want to see you poorly treated or shrugged off if there was an issue. Peavey has always had very good customer service.

Not a fan of Behringer. I like Peavey, but know nothing about their bass gear.
