I got her to help me get non-committally reacquainted with Birds. I had a Alpine white Classic Pro IV a few years ago which I loved very much and it really broke my heart to sell her, but I just couldn't find a decent-looking comfortable playing position. I even had fretting wrist problems at one point and had to stop playing almost 2 weeks. But I really miss that bass and if things go well, planning to get another Classic Pro IV or Vintage Pro, maybe even a Gibson, who knows at this point. I have faith :-).

I strung mine BEAD for a while because I wanted that Bird sound but needed to go low for a specific song on a project. I thought it sounded amazing and I didn't have any string tension issues or any neck or tuning/ intonation problems at all.

I’ve been living and playing music down here in Texas (based out of Austin) for almost five years now...and it never gets better in regards to the weather! The people are nice and there is actually good money to be made in some circles of Texas Music, but I have fantasies every single day about moving back to Chicago, or out to the Pacific Northwest or New England to live in a temperate climate with four real seasons again. I could almost give up music to have autumn leaves and snow in my life again (professionally, I’d still play at church or for fun).

On the ergonomic front, consider dropping the body of the bass a few inches lower than you normally would. I hang mine with the top horn resting against my belt buckle. That allows you to rotate the neck up nearer to a 1:00 position which is much easier on your left arm and fretting hand.

Another option is the Dingwall DBird with fanned frets. The less expensive model looks great and is actually a pretty fair price new considering the build quality and components.

I love buying used gear from L&M. There is a decent warranty. You have 30 days to bring it back for any or no reason at all. You get a free set up. Yes, I can buy a bit cheaper on Kijiji, but then it is pay your money take your chances.

Gonna need a longer strap.
Do you rest your playing hand's wrist somewhere in upper bout's dip ?

Indeed. Hanging around the Laval shop and talking to one guy in particular helped me a lot and there's also a fellow at the St-Eustache shop who also helped. I bought all my Traynor amps used from them, only the TC 1510 is new.

They also gave the Bird a quick set-up before letting me go with it, she plays so nice !

They are very good at tracking down used gear at your price point - or at least they are at my L&M. I have them on the lookout for a cheap 115 for me at the moment. But I will never beat the deal I got on my 1510 - $200. It was a no brainer to just plunk down the money when I saw it.

Really proud to be back on this thread, which I watched from afar for the last couple of years. TBirds owners have a special devotion to their bass !

What head are you feeding into the 1510.... and does that set-up make the Bird fly ?
