Thunderbird Club

patent pending..:smug:..
That's what Wallace says.

Lollars (in my opinion) have quite a bit more clarity and top end.

I meant (thought I said so) REPLACEMENT pickups. I would think many would be happy with stock pickups. They sound really cool. I happen to prefer Lollars and TB’s. On a shallow note, I also prefer chrome :)

Thunderbuckers are the shizz. I was so enamoured of the first one -- stock in the NR41 -- I immediately ordered another of the same type (66S), which is now in the Orville. Cooler heads may have opted for a different model, but even with the same strings and same pickup, the NR41 and Orville have completely different tonal character.

The JAEbird has a 66N, which is a much politer ball of wire and magnets. The superfluous 66B is on the shelf and I may yet try it in place of the 66N.

I'm sure Lollars and Mojos and what have you sound pretty good, just I have no motivation to go there. No GAS.

But I'm familiar with 12A?7s... And the goal isn't simple, the goal is stupid with huge redundancy and stupid. And the transformer is integral to the 'tubey' sound.

But feel free to forward that suggestion to Ampeg and Traynor. You never know and there could be a nice consulting fee in it for you.
There are plenty of tubey sounds that don’t care about a power transformer. The goal was to integrate it into the case at a price point that would attract buyers who otherwise couldn’t afford an electric guitar and amp- hardly stupid. They weren’t after people who could afford a Les Paul or Strat, a big amp, etc.

Did I post this? Been a long day! About to play a gig on a barge in Indiana...yep.
The superfan is having a custom bass made for me by Robin Guitars in Houston. I got to pick nut width and colors, the rest is the only way he’ll do it. He’s also the owner of Rio Grande pickups, so that’s what’s going in. He said “if you like T Bird pickups, you’ll love these.” I’ll be the judge of that! Worst case, I’ll swap the pickups.

Yeah, not to be disrespectful to anyone, but that’s not bass to me. Plus, play something.
That's not weird, this is.

My thought was to make an amp for me (unrelated to the amp in case from whence it all started) based on a stupidly large redundant big array of 12AU7s as power amp.

I think Rod at Regenerate Guitar Works has switched to Rio Grande for his basses. I have a Regenerate and but it has Nordys in it. Heard nothing but good things about the Rio Grandes. I bet it will sound fantastic.
