Thunderbird Club

Now I need to do some testing and measuring. The ‘15 went into the case and got hidden when we left for vacation. Only bass I was worried about if someone broke in. I put the Cobalts on it a while back and am still in the honeymoon phase with them. I need to get a magnet to test the pickup polarity orientation. Mine is not chorusy to my ears as it is currently set up.

Hidden?! Just stop that right now. I mean i get it, but..............

Shorter intonation screws came yesterday, but I was at a conference all day. Installed and intonated this morning, and played a while. This bass just got dreamier.

As it came from the factory with the higher tension strings, I couldn't get the pickups as high as I wanted without them flopping around. Between the Supertone and the Cobalt flats, I got the strings down lower, and now with the pickups as high as they will go with stability, it's much more perfect (as Mark Heard used to say).

My phone camera refused to focus on the screws close up, but you can still see the length difference. Why this bird wants the D and G strings so long, I have no idea.

PRO TIP: Drop the saddle height back down to get the new intonation screws into the holes easily. Otherwise the tips just grind on the bottom edge of the screw holes. After you have the screws a few thread turns in, raise the saddles back up.
Pro Tip: when needing a closeup in a phone photo, take the photo from farther away to get that part in focus, then crop later. This works great on an iPhone. Not sure about Android.

Wow! Pillo is asleep at the switch; I initially assumed that came from him.
Been a tough couple of days. I paddled 13 km yesterday and again today. (13km=8mi for those stuck on measures that don't take advantage of engineering notation). Garmin says it involved burning more than 900 calories each time. So, yeah, asleep at the switch. Literally - I needed a nap yesterday and today.

Playing in a temporary thing, with possibility for more, but today I played through a Mesa Subway D800 and an SWR 410 cab. Sounded great. I think the Queen is onto something. This was the only pic I got, more to remember my settings. As usual, the Thunderbird doesn't need much past flat, and that awful Voicing knob off with extreme prejudice.

Yeah. But where to find a SWR 410?

Well, my i respectfully say that the voicing control on the Mesa is not exactly a waste of time.

Looking at budget used amps nearby. Ampeg BA115HP ($250), Fender Rumble 115 ($200), Peavey TKO 80 ($150).
There’s also an Ampeg B1RE ($120), but I’d need to pick a cab.

Any standouts, or keep looking? Mostly for practice for now, but occasionally would be used for back yard jam sessions.

I think the Fender Rumble stuff is rock solid, personally
