Capsaicin, the chemical that accounts for the spiciness, has a long aliphatic tail. This makes it very fat soluble. By eating or drinking anything that contains a decent about of fat (milk is a great choice because the fat is emulsified keeping the offending molecule away from sensitive mucus membranes) the capsaicin partitions into the fat removing the sensation of burning.
How about some coconut oil?
 
I have to admit that I am a shoe hoarder so I empathize with Kat!

I have a large shoe collection as well, but NOTHING like my wife's. My wife keeps the boxes and stores the shoes in them when not in use. It is a less cluttered way to store them, but that is a LOT of boxes.
