Ok, let me ask this question - do the center plies go from the bottom of the body and remain consistent to the tip of the hs? (hense; neck-thru) Your pic gives the impression the neck plies are wider than on the body - but it may just be the neck out of focus looking that way. They are separated visually by the black halo/fade at the heal - so measuring the width on the body and neck independently would be best.

The neck consists of 9 pieces of wood as well. That's a yes!

I prefer the Epi Classic Pro over the Vintage Pro, and it’s a couple hundred cheaper too

I get why you are counting 9. That includes the very thin laminates on both sides of the two thinner center strips. Where does Epi get 7? If you don't count the four very thin laminates , that leaves you with 5, not seven??? Possibly they count the body wings/flanges as two. A joint is a sort of laminate I guess...

Here is mine, newly acquired. Still not sure on how high (or how low) I will wear it. I just love the satin neck, and I guess I will quickly get used to the cutting board look. Baklances perfectly with a strap, no neck dive issue at all.

Here's some good sense advice - I'm sure that over the years you've collected lots of stuff. Take a walk through the house, garage and yard and see if there's anything you want less than a TBird, if so, sell it.


Should make for a really hot date if you get in a wreck.

You counted correctly. The plies may not run the full length of the neck but as long as they are part of the neck assembly and not the wings it counts.


Well, depending on how you look at the Longhorn it might have three plies. Body top and back are a masonite sandwhich for a wood center core.
PS - ya gotta giggle at the creative method for finishing the wood body core - vinyl adhesive tape. Only Dano could get away with that one. I won't mention the plastic strap pins. LOL
But by gosh they sound sweet!

Screwed in metal strap buttons standard now. Like a REAL bass!

Actually, I always loved the white tape along the edge on the Danelectros. The plastic strap pins not so much.

I pulled the trigger on a returned white VP, guaranteed to be in new condition, with a one year Sam Ash warranty. I was REALLY tempted by @DWLANG 's VP with HSC, but I've been dreaming of a white bird for some time. But... it was not an easy decision. If I wasn't set on white, I'd have been all over DW's deal. If anyone else is looking for a VP, talk to that man!
(The pointers under the knobs are the cherry on the whipped cream on that delicious looking sundae!)

Yup, for now. Rumor is the building will be demolished and a new residential tower put up on the site. I heard the lot was valued at something north of $5.5mil.

Also holds the distinction of being only one of two places in Seattle proper I ever played. The other being The Offramp.

The Offramp is now called El Corazon, if I remember right. It's not a Latin venue at all, but rather a grimy metal place. It's Seattle. Everything you know isn't quite what you thought you knew.

I've played El C at least 4 times, it's pretty typical, divey and a lot of fun. No doubt it'll get ground into dust at some point like The Funhouse, so, yeah I got that goin' for me

All you guys are making me want to spring for an actual Gibson Thunderbird. Ah, the sweet vanilla smell of nitro. . . You all remember I AM retiring, right? And that I would have to cut my spending a bit ( this from the guy who just purchased Hipshot tuners and bridge for my Classic Pro, a Dano Longhorn and a Dano 59XT ). What to do? Somebody talk some sense into me!

yes! yes! Get the Gibson!

Ok, I'll bite. My Classic Pro has the same 9-ply construction as the Gibson, using the same tone woods, the same USA Gibson pickups, and superior tuners and bridge ( arguably ). It sounds FANTASTIC, plays beautifully, balances extremely well and is light in weight. The bass, plus all the Hipshot hardware and Epi hardshell case cost $900 all in, brand new. All I'm missing is the nitro finish. Now it is clearly a modern T-bird, not a 60's, but it must be awful close in sound and feel to a modern T-BIRD. What makes the 60's T-birds better. I really want to know. Are they that much better? Also, are modern Gibson T-birds that much better than what I have? I am truly curious, and I in no way mean to scoff at all those who own the real deal - heck, I want one too! Convince me darn it!

I love my 2011, but honestly don’t think there would be much difference in sound to your Epi CP.

just maybe a little ‘nicer’ , maybe.

Oh, and I have been 60s deprived as well.

My retirement plan is to by now before the income stream stops. So keep buying...

that’s my plan too. I’ll planning on travelling prior to retirement (mostly)

Very cool. Having never played a Longhorn I'm interested in hearing how they compare to my 2 Dano's. The bass player in this Dutch band rocked one and it sounds really ace in the mix. This is what mine sound like and why I love them.

I thought it was an EB3 on Radar Love ?

My 67 EBO (short scale) is so light, neck dive isn’t an issue.

I wanted (at one time) an Epi EB0 byt with the 2 pickups.
