I heard as well, this is a very sad day. I vividly remember when the first Rush album came out (pre Neil) I was jamming with Ron Troutman with his SG and white Marshall stack, me with my 65 Hofner and Traynor YBA-1 with the 1x18 cab furiously twiddeling knobs trying to get treble out of my set up lol. Rush was a revelation and was soon to be even more so when Neil joined. I especially enjoyed Neil's lyrics and his ability to paint a picture with words. He will be missed.I just saw news that Neil Peart died.

This is probably the only shot of me actually acting like a bass player on a stage that is left in existence. Circa 1989 or so, our very first show we ever played, on the back of a flatbed truck at Spanaway Lake Park -

I just saw news that Neil Peart died.
He was an amazing soul, really sad at his passing. I count myself very lucky to have seen Rush 5 times starting with Caress of Steel, Neil really took them where they needed to go musically. RIP to a wonderful musician and human being.

I'm very happy for you. Got ended up with a great bass. If you aren't happy, I'll be shocked. I got the same kind of deal on my white VP from SA as well. Couldn't pass it up and glad I didn't. I found no signs of use whatsoever. And I'm picky. Looked brand new, so hopefully your bass will be in that kind of condition. Each one is different, but it may be near perfect.And I'm thinking of adding pointers!

Never saw them, but they were definitely, very influential. As a young bass player, Neil's drumming was part of Geddy's bass playing, such a feature of the listening experience. We all could sing drum parts from Rush tunes!
There's a space now where his persona was, and it's making me sit quietly. Part of my world has listed a little to one side. It'll stay up, but I have to do something to right it.
Playing music is all I can do. Giving some energy back, it's kind of like saying "thank you for all the music lessons"! You have to give some back, so it's not wasted.
Those are my thoughts on it.
You've got to move back to Kentucky so I can more easily visit your basses, I mean you!
I have seen many rock stars die over the years. But this is the first time that I am very upset about it. I never met him, but feel like we were kindred spirits.

It is odd as he did look stereotypically Chinese. Herbie Popnecker was one quirky comic. It was drawn like those religious pamphlets that are rubber-banded to your doorknob - realistically drawn rather than 4 fingered, big headed cartoony. Herbie was a young overweight boy with a bowl-cut, David Hockney black glasses, sleepy eyes, a white shirt with tie, dress pants and always sucking on a lollypop. The lollypops give him super-powers like flying and even time-travel. He could talk with animals, who all knew who he was. Even bullets fired at him would avoid striking him knowing it was Herbie Popnecker. He was drawn in an exaggerated way (round as a ball) but his parents were drawn as normal people. He would meet the Beatles, JFK, and other famous people of the time. His general nature was being bored - with crazy stuff always happening around him. An unassuming anti-super hero super hero. He also used his lollypop as a weapon - he'd "bop" you with his lollypop. I don't know this as a fact, but I bet Herbie Popnecker is a favorite of Bill Griffith (Zippy) - a similar level of absurdity. There was no other comic like HP during its run - totally unique, and odd.

A drummer friend met him once in Jersey. Some kind of dinner and was at the table with him. My friend was in awe. Peart wouldn't interact with him at all. Basically ignored him. Really hurt Jim's feelings. I hear he was shy (but never seemed like it on TV), but other's can't tell shy from rude. Maybe he was having a bad day.
