Thunderbird Club

Where do you get that name (just "Vintage")? I'm guessing it's just someone using random words. I have seen that used for Vintage Pro, but also just for random Epiphone Thunderbirds.

Question. What do you think of the $399 model? Is it huggable on its own? Any issues/weaknesses to consider?

Trust no one. The truth is out there.
Trust but verify - Ronald Reagan
You can't trust anybody with power - Newt Gingrich
Don't trust anyone over 30 - Pat Boone
There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty. - John Adams

Anyone who doesn't take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted in large ones either. - Albert Einstein

Some of these are funny in an ironic sense,

I have two different basses with Babs and they both work fine, I just don't really personally feel a need to flip out a perfectly functioning three pointer for one. I will also agree with you on the Alembic bridge, I have a couple of those as well and they are an odd design but still easier to dial in than a Bab.

There's a lot of creative bridge designs out there. The older Spector Euro is downright goofy. There aren't any intonation screws, you just loosen the string and then tap the saddle to the position you want. Very basic. Warwick is the other extreme, an overly complicated bridge that's probably in need of some serious value engineering. Then there's the Dano bridge with a single rosewood block for the saddles.

The write up was interesting but the picture of the band included a friend of mine, guitarist John McFee (lower left corner) but never mentioned him in the write up.

Gotta love the little SS Jag. That split P is to die for (the Jazz pup is useless, but that's ok since I rarely use that pup any way). I dropped a John East preamp in mine and that precision pup just screams. Fun little bass.

Looks nice! I found that I didn't need the spacer plate on mine. Taking it out allowed me to raise the saddle cams up higher for a better break angle. With the spacer in, my cams were nearly bottomed out.

The Hipshot is a great match for the Eppi where you have raised shoulder bridge insert anchors. It has a recess in the bottom plate for those shoulders. If you use it on the Gibby where the bridge insert anchors are flush mounted you run the risk of partially extracting the inserts from the body if you over tighten. Stick to the Babicz on the Gibby if you don't like the stock bridge.
Every once in a while I'll dial up volume on the J pup just to remind me how useless it is. Then right back down.

I like your first version. Many here would say yes. Also to the second one.
What is the cuddliest bass?

Probably this one.

I love mine. Well made, sustains, plays nicely, all the low end I ever wanted. Now that I have a VP as well, the std IV will become my BEAD bass.
