the Air Raid sirens in that intro send shivers down my spine.....Still working hard on War Pigs. Gigged it back in the day, but mostly did my own thing on all those bass leads. Now I'm learning it note-for-note just cause I have the time and want to, coming up on 7:34 of 8:15. Interesting note, many of the bass leads are faster than the guitar leads.
...Anybody got a clue how much the 'ransom' will be?
A worthy goal! I used to sing and play it many years ago. I was probably not playing it accuratelyStill working hard on War Pigs. I learned a lot by playing along with the first 4 albums.I feel like Geezer's under-rated by a lot of people.
Well crap. I was kind of hoping it was fake news. Now I have this deep desire to have one.... Just maybe they have the typical horrible neck dive and some dude will have to sell one used.
Me too brother, me too. I got to shake his hand once, but no talent rubbed off. I absolutely loved his playing. Self-taught didn't turn out so bad. Barry Lee Harwood once said Leon was the guy he really missed, adding he was just a super sweet person. One of my bass heroes. Gone far too soon. Some days it ambushes me, like Gollum jumping out of nowhere. While there were other influences, Leon is the single biggest reason I was attracted to Thunderbirds.

That E252 Broadway is killer.interesting bit of history. Doesn’t mention Thunderbirds, but explains a lot.

That reminds me. The EB-1 in the photo from my friend at Retrofret, he said the f-holes (ahem) are painted on. I never knew that. That E252 Broadway is killer.
Like how you can change the color of paint on your walls b4 you buy the stuff. So Gibby takes a pic of the one 2021 NR, then changes it to make it look like there's 3 colors. And that one is white. It's also why there isn't a lotta difference between "blue" and "green".lost me at digitally..
a work colleague was showing me pics of his which he uses for bass....had no clue Hiwatt ever made anything ss (or so we think, trying to locate schem)...in this case, ss(?) mixer into the traditional Dave Reeves EL-34 output stage....would love to get my hands one one..

yeah, everything I found is tube...my colleague had it wrong...Nothing SS there more so than any other Hiwatt, the front end is tube driven. Per the listing: "4x EL34s + 6x 12AX7’s".
You can see more examples here of the DR203, which was the 200w PA head.

NBD!
My brand-spankin' new Epi Thunderbird Vintage Pro in Alpine White.
Two quick pics; one with the plastics on, and one with them off.
All it needed when it arrived was a quick 5-minute setup including lowering the bridge slightly and setting the intonation on the G string. I also purchased the well made & affordable Epi case.
I've played it through my SWR Baby Blue combo clean, with my Tech21 GED2112 preamp, my Darkglass B7k and my Sansamp VT pedal, and it sounds great through them all. This bass loves a little added dirt!
This weekend I'll run it through the Big Rig - my Phil Jones M500 head through Phil Jones 8x5" and 16x5" cabs. I anticipate some heavy-duty thunder!
I'm very impressed with the build quality, especially at this price point. The fit & finish, fretwork, and hardware are all outstanding. Playability after the setup is great, with low & easy action.
The tone is classic Thunderbird; Warm & full, throaty, a little dark and plenty of clank & bite depending where the controls are set.
I could not be happier with this one! If you are thinking about the Epi Vintage Pro, don't hesitate; they are great basses.
May I have a number please?
