This has a great skanky groove, great, unexpected cover of a Tom Waits song...........

NBD!
My brand-spankin' new Epi Thunderbird Vintage Pro in Alpine White.
Two quick pics; one with the plastics on, and one with them off.
All it needed when it arrived was a quick 5-minute setup including lowering the bridge slightly and setting the intonation on the G string. I also purchased the well made & affordable Epi case.
I've played it through my SWR Baby Blue combo clean, with my Tech21 GED2112 preamp, my Darkglass B7k and my Sansamp VT pedal, and it sounds great through them all. This bass loves a little added dirt!
This weekend I'll run it through the Big Rig - my Phil Jones M500 head through Phil Jones 8x5" and 16x5" cabs. I anticipate some heavy-duty thunder!
I'm very impressed with the build quality, especially at this price point. The fit & finish, fretwork, and hardware are all outstanding. Playability after the setup is great, with low & easy action.
The tone is classic Thunderbird; Warm & full, throaty, a little dark and plenty of clank & bite depending where the controls are set.
I could not be happier with this one! If you are thinking about the Epi Vintage Pro, don't hesitate; they are great basses.
May I have a number please?

Ooooh! If I didn't already have a Precision, that would be really tempting. But maybe I need to get my P refinished.

Welcome home! Now you will soon be addicted to Thunderbird's flapping wing sound and other basses will diminish in standing. Once you find the right string and EQ setting for you, you will have a hard time NOT playing a Thunderbird.NBD!

You have a great bass. Epi hit it out of the part with the VP. It's very close to the tone of an original 60s version, which I have. For the price you can't find a better bass, for a Thunderbird lover. Close enough I have two VPs and after my '64 they are likely next in line at that top of my list of basses. Above my '58 and '64 P and '62 Jazz for starters. I'm forever grateful to Scott D. for directing me to the VP! Which I likely would have not considered.
Need to get a family pic with the '06.

I like the Pbass better because well, it’s a Pbass not a Jazz. I see the company is in Austin. Any idea where they’re made?
No idea, but they're supposed to be very good. Two issues for me: I'm not interested in a Fender-like bass and they don't do left-handed.I like the Pbass better because well, it’s a Pbass not a Jazz. I see the company is in Austin. Any idea where they’re made?
Yes, I thought it a little odd the '76 board was so light for rosewood. I prefer the darker boards with character. It was the 70s. I'm surprised some basses didn't have pine FBs.With all the "discourse" I see about people's feelings on the shift from Rosewood to Pau Ferro & Indian Laurel, it's pretty interesting to see how similar the fretboards are between the White VP and '76 Bird. Personally I like the graining in the Indian Laurel I've seen, as long as it's well oiled I think it looks very pretty. Not quite the traditional dark of ebony, but I tend to like Rosewood boards with a bit more striation, which usually shows up on slightly lighter boards.
Also guess I should add I just paid to have an Epi VP in white shipped out. Saw it in classifieds, and since Sweetwater said they don't have any additional coming in, figured I might as well snag one!
