Thunderbird Club

Yes. Saab 92 and 93 were two-stroke.
My father had five Saab 96 models in a row. There used to be a saying in Finland that "Saabism is a sickness". :D

They were manufactured in Finland too so when I was in early grades in the 80's every other family had a Saab. Usually a 99 or 900.

My wife tells me about them, blowing up buildings here, especially in Miraflores, Lima, and killing people, they were afraid to leave their houses. They're still in the clink, I think the leader just died within the past year, Guzman, now he was a LOCO. My late father-in-law loved President Fujimori because he pretty much eradicated them by sending in a bunch of cops to their hideout who captured the leaders, I think that was in Lima someplace, not sure though.
I like Mexico too.

Funnily enough, Australia have a Mexican take away business called “Guzman y Gomez”. Started in Sydney by an ex-NY bloke that didn’t like what passed for Mexican food here.

So this is an update from a past post here concerning a custom made/gilded and final-finished (by Pat Wilkins) 12 string guitar body that 'porch pirates' stole off my porch. It was shipped via FedEx and insured for $500/signature upon delivery and the driver forged my signature and left it exposed in front of my Mission SF door. FedEx refused to take responsibility for it, siding with their driver that it was "delivered". (I wasn't home) Because they say it was delivered, FedEx won't even pay Pat for his insurance claim. (about $630) So I contacted the BBB and... they sided w/Fed Ex. (of course they did - they protect businesses, not consumers) I then contacted Consumer Affairs of CA and they passed on it saying it wasn't something they do. (!?!) I'm not giving up yet, and have sent a letter with all documents to FedEx headquarters. (first claim was all on-line) Only other option if they continue to not take responsibility is small claims court and I doubt if I'll go that route as it will take time and money and it would be me against a mega-corporation.

So in the meantime (it was stollen last October) Reid made another maple body like the one stollen. I just gilded it (like the one stollen) and will send it to Pat on Monday for his final-finishing. Who knows what the porch pirate did with the body. I scan craigslist/eBay and Reverb off & on in case they attempt to sell it. It's unique/distinctive enough that it just might surface somewhere someday.

Also in the meantime, I made a 'mail box' bolted to our landing wall and with a lock. It's already been successfully used - when USPS delivered Reids body #2 I wasn't home and it was put in the box and locked safe & sound.

Let’s hope the new one doesn’t get stolen.
You are still at the whim of the delivery people though. What if they don’t lock the padlock ? What if they don’t use the bin?
But I guess you’ve done as much as possible at your premises… I don’t have any better ideas.

Taco Bell(which I like-sorta)is to Real Mexican food as fake "Bacon Bits" are to real Bacon.

For years it was my dream car as, like you, I had an old 544. Too few were made though and they’re near impossible to find. At some point, Volvo collector Colin Powell had a couple very nice ones.
Our band was doing an outdoor gig at a car show thing-y. There was a beautifully restored P1800 there. I spoke to the owner who said "go ahead and sit in it". I thanked him, but passed 'cos I was all sweaty from playing my Thunderbird and had too much respect for his car to get in. There was also the fact that while I was fairly certain I could get in; with my questionable knees, I wasn't sure I could get back out.

Speaking of trim rings………
I know it’s been mentioned before.
But where can I get 2 pairs.
My pups sit way to low. i could do the add the foam thing. Which will probably be needed any way.
But I sure could use those rings.

Maybe it’s the spacers I mean.
Something to lift the pups a bit more.
If you’re trying to raise the actual pups closer to the strings, or if you’re trying to firm them up so they don’t move when you touch them you’ll need foam under the pups. This is what I use on my Tbirds…
Pickup Foam Height Springs - Jazz Bass - 2 3/4" x 5/8" x 11/16" - 10 pack
…but weather strip material from the hardware store also works if you get the right foam thickness and density.

Trim rings won’t raise the pup, but they will cover the base of the pup a bit so you can raise it higher without seeing a gap between the pup and body.

The were like a throwback to the '40s American bulge-mobiles, only smaller.

Thank you George.
That will work
The Lollars and Chinabuckers are shallow.
And I thought I saw somewhere
here a black spacer that goes between the body and pickup to raise it a bit.

Thoughts?

Both Geddy and Alex are skilled impersonators. Well, of a select cast of characters anyway...

I know it’s a pain, but won’t FedEx deliver to one of their stores where you can pick it up? I think you can do that with UPS too? It’s weird, but the couple nightmare shipping problems I’ve had were both UPS.

The story my brother (who was a designer with them from ‘88 to ‘20) heard was that the 1974 US bumper regulations was the final nail in the coffin for that car. They were expensive and didn’t sell at a volume the company could afford to keep in production while having to do an exterior redesign on. Too bad. It was a beautiful car.

Actually GD purchased the Chrysler defense division around the time Iacocca took over Chrysler.
Invalid Link Removed

Well, the good is that the neurons correctly linked General Dynamics and Chrysler. Details are the bits that get pushed out to make room for other things like Bananarama lyrics...

The article has the added bonus of other companies I haven't thought about in quite some time - Drexel Burnham...

[edit]Also confirms that it was done to keep the company solvent.
