Time for our annual RRHOF Bashing

Sincere question: Is pop music included in the RRHOF list of accepted genres? Because although Janet Jackson may have HOF level influence on some genres of music, rock ain't one of them IMHO.

Well, N.W.A. was inducted into the RRHOF, so genre has pretty much nothing to do with it at this point.

For what it's worth, I like rap and hip hop. I just tend to enjoy rap and hip hop that is more positive. I can't deny that N.W.A. were influential at the time, but I'd be lying through my teeth if I said that influence was positive.

Public Enemy is in it but Jethro Tull isn't, and people take this seriously.

Yeah people get really worked up over the RRHOF. To me, it's a pretty big joke.

Very happy to see the Cure get in and the Zombies' Oddesey And Oracle is in my top 5 all time favorite albums- it's up there with Sgt. Pepper or Pet Sound in my mind- and those are the nicest, most humble guys in all of rock music, so they deserve it. They are still our touring and Colin's voice is a miracle. Of course Todd Rundgren should be in, that's a given. Still, I have a lot of time for Stevie Nicks' solo career and no interest in bashing her at all. She Stevie effing Nicks. Big, huge solo hits, major rock star.

Because for a brief period, she and Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam took Prince's Minneapolis funk formula and did it even better. The "Control" album and parts of Rhythm Nation were absolutely at the vanguard of popular music when released.

1. It should be "Popular Music Hall of Fame". Let's get past labels, the way the have done for a few years...

The one oversight that bothered me the most was Kraftwerk. They single-handedly defined an entire genre... Not many other musicians can say that. Stevie Nicks as solo? She only got there because of Fleetwood Mac. I think it is time to stop with the multiple inductions... Eric Clapton for John Mayall, Cream and Solo??? Was it really necessary, rather than say "For his multiple contributions"????

I have no doubt that Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone et al are nice human beings - but anyone who has seen the Zombies in the past few years would have to recognize that to call them humble is utterly ridiculous.

When I last saw the Zombies, it was at Stern Grove in San Francisco - summer of '14.
Between Rod and Colin, they did more self-aggrandizing of their own greatness then Crosby Stills and Nash and that's saying something.

Rod Argent in particular made extra effort to be sure he was recognized for songs like She's Not There and Time of the Season....

Todd Rundgren was finally nominated this year but not inducted.

What I don't get is that many acts that started in the 1980s and 1990s are already inducted and numerous, well deserving acts from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s have never even been nominated.

Look around, though. For lots of people, history begins with their earliest memories.

It's called the Rock Hall of Fame, but in reality it's just the Popular Music Hall of Fame, and that's fine.

That’s a great idea!

I vote that The People change the name to Popular Music Hall of Fame. Perhaps it would then have a shred of legitimacy.

Roxy Music---don't know whether they're RRHOF material, but Bryan Ferry loved letting his bass players loose:
