Time for our annual RRHOF Bashing

Its pretty sad especially when you consider who was left out of last years class compared to this year. Def Leppard and not Judas Priest? Joke. Janet Jackson and not The Eurythmics? Pathetic. I think Bruce Dickenson said he'd decline if Maiden were inducted, and good for him. It wont ever happen, of course, because they're actually a great band and that matters little in these sort of things.
That said, the Cure is one of my all time favorite bands. I don't know if they give a rats ass about the HOF, but it certainly doesn't make me like them more or less.

Many of my favorites are not in the RRHOF, but it doesn't bother me as much as Rolling Stone rating the "greatest guitar players". I heard an interview with Derek Trucks who said he felt a lot of pride when he heard he made the list, only to realize when he saw the list that it was BS. It helps to have that attitude about these things I guess.
The RRHOF committee is made up of Robert Christgau-esque journalists who hate metal. That's what keeps Priest, Maiden, etc. out.
I have to keep reminding myself, the RRHOF is a museum and a business that needs to keep marketing itself and paying the bills and salaries. That's it. So many nominees that I think really belong there don't get in, and I always scratch my head over many of the inductees. But that's not really the point of the RRHOF, it's merely a sideshow, a walking billboard to keep drawing attention to itself. It's a business model.
Setting up these false equivalencies and pecking orders is just more injustice in the music industry to entertainers and their fans, more smoke and mirrors.

They wouldn't make the hall of fame, but they have a few really awesome super bowl plays that everyone remembers with "She's Not There", "Time of the Season" etc.
I'm glad to see the Cure in there. They were enormously influential and they have the large fan base/body of work that usually justifies HOF.
Devo was robbed, though!
Some of the suggestions I've read for bands that should be inducted are as questionable as those that are inducted.
The RRHOF isn’t about talent, influence, legacy, etc.... It’s about revenue. Who is making the money for the big labels? That’s who gets in. Popularity. It’s Rock and Roll. Why are you surprised by the shallowness of it all? Lol.

There are many bands or singers mentioned that might sell a out stadium in New York, or Chicago, but in Texas or some other places could not fill a tiny club. The perception of what is influential in one area, is just that, a personal perception, and may not warrant even 1 listen in another market.

Fortunately, the couple of times we've been there we didn't have to pay to get in.

You mean like The Guess Who? How many hits did they have between 1968 and 1973? Lets count: Shakin' All Over, American Woman, No Time, She's Come Undone, Bus Rider, Laughing, Albert Flasher, Clap for the Wolfman, Runnin' Back to Saskatoon.....the Beastie Boys are in, but not the Guess Who? Who's in charge at the RRHOF?

You're right they get the most hits from people debating the current year's list.Controversy sells, man.
I like all of these bands/artists, especially The Cure and Roxie Music and Stevie Nicks, but the idea of the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame is antithetical to the IDEA of rock'n'roll in the first place, so screw that place. Happy for the inductees, though.
Th RRHOF is the music industry's version of the high school yearbook committee. A self aggrandizing clique who feel the need to put their stamp on society, whether it's accurate or (usually the case >) not. Sophomoric politics.
