The RRHOF is a tourist trap and meaningless to music.

They're just trying to get people to buy tickets. So they give meaningless awards to anyone who will let them.

People who get upset about who's in and who's not always assume there's legitimacy to it. There really isn't. It doesn't mean anything.

What legitimacy does the hall of fame have?

Exactly! It's not like there's a governing body to rock and roll like there is for pro sports. There's no authority vested in any one person or organization to validate any sort of award. Also, I always figured that the concept of a hall of fame is to make the accomplishments of a person famous. For example:

Steve Carlton (pitcher for the Phillies) was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994. Why?

His rookie year he lead the league in strikes. He was a 10 time All-Star, 10 time season winningest pitcher, won 300 games, three Cy Young awards and a Golden Glove.

Cool. Makes sense. He should be famous for that.

Kiss - sorry - KISS was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. Why?

... for being famous. They should be famous for being famous? It doesn't work the same way. You could argue that albums sold and ticket sales can work as a metric or a stat for an entertainer but that's just a byproduct of fame. RRHOF is an exercise in redundancy.

Nicks, Jackson....so much for Rock 'n Roll. Looks like more crap awards for selling records and still being alive. Sludge like this diminishes the value of the award previously bestowed upon the R'n'R giants that deserve the honors.

Because for a brief period, she and Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam took Prince's Minneapolis funk formula and did it even better. The "Control" album and parts of Rhythm Nation were absolutely at the vanguard of popular music when released.

MY guess is that they could have done it without here whereas the other way around seems a little less likely.

Even though I'm a big fan and I give them credit for helping to fuel the New Romantic movement, I never thought they got enough credit or that they'd get this kind of recognition. I assumed only people who took the time to dig deeper into their catalog than "Love Is The Drug" would truly understand and appreciate them. I guess all the New Romantics have a shot now. Maybe Spandau Ballet will be on the ballot soon.

Roxy Music kicked off about 15 years before the New Romantics were around, with Brian Eno as synth/processing guru. They sat initially somewhere between prog and glam rock. Their first three albums were innovative and just weird enough to become influential. Without Eno (who left after their second album), they became progressively poppier and more commercially successful as the '70s drew to a close.

If it was my Hall, few people after 1963 would get in. It's not that that's my favorite era, but most music after that is pop or some other genre that doesn't sound like rock & roll to me.

never had a problem with the sound of Radiohead’s music. I just can’t stand Thom Yorke (or anyone who just exudes how much smarter they think they are than you). Not to say any less of anyone who does like him. Just not my cup of tea

The Zombies strike me as a one hit wonder with a limited impact on music overall.

I think Radiohead is highly over rated, and the average person could name exact one song theirs.
Stevie Nicks as a part of Fleetwood Mac made far more of an impact on music than her solo career. Again, kind of a one hit wonder.
Janet Jackson; sure. Not rock, but whatever.
Def Leppard; they were one of those bands that helped MTV blow up, and Woo-Girls everywhere still love Pour Some Sugar On Me. They haven't done anything since then, but fine.
The Cure; I guess they will always be perennial favorites for the mopey, pastie, eye liner crowd. Not my bag, but I can at least name a few songs of theirs.
