Easily 3 or 4 months back Ronnie's pal Steve put alerts on FB for some of his basses.

The T-40/Milestone neck had already gone by then. Likely the stepson moved on the quick sales then the rest went to a 3rd party as a job lot or maybe commission.

Sorry I missed the Facebook alert. Some months before Ronnie passed, he and I were talking about me buying 3 or 4 of my favorites.
I am pleased that I've got his Gen 1 Fury...nice to have one to remind me of him.
He had an EMG Pre in it, which I took out pretty quick. At one point, I think he was using it as a five string bass.

I've a Dyna Bass Unity series of his. It's another which started out as a husk he picked up, populated with what came to hand. Sadly, for me, Duncan quarter pounders were what he had at hand

Wait, did you get a sort of green/blue Dyna Unity from him? ...he wanted to sell one to me and I wasn't sure.
By the time I was sure, he had sold it.
I was worried about an old neck through bass, what if the neck had problems? ...kinda dumb.

1993 Peavey Fury - "Stormbringer"

Mods To Be Executed:

• Replace stock neck with 32" scale Warmoth neck (woods TBD - probably padouk neck with ebony fretboard and red basin jasper dot inlays) with a matte black headstock
• Black Hipshot Ultralite tuners
• Black Hipshot Kickass bridge
• Route body for, shield cavity, and install two G&L MFD pickups in the tradition L2000 positions wired with pickup selector switch, Parallel/Single Coil/OMG switch with volume and passive bass and treble controls (no active circuit, so no need for the active passive switch)
• Matte black body refinish
• Cut and install a custom Black/Red/Black 3-ply pickguard that will be etched with red runes like the ones on the sword, Stormbringer, on the covers of Michael Moorcock's Elric saga (with the cover art by Robert Gould)View attachment 4863423
• Install black and red speed knobs

Hey there folks. How do you think this Peavey/G&L amalgamation I'm thinking up would sound with the G&L MFDs in the Ric pic positions but with all of the G&L passive wiring and switching. Is this a dumb idea? Is this too similar tonaly to a T-40? Should I just put the MFDs in their normal positions? Why must I tinker so much?!

Can’t answer all your questions but I may have some experience/input on placement. I’ve built my ‘mongrel’ Patriot with with an MFD pickup in the Ricky bridge spot and a T15 in the neck spot. The MFD has a coil tap so it’s humbucking single coil pair with the neck in that setting. It also has a Spector (Tonepump) preamp which kind of ties in with my following point, it either needs an active/passive switch or I need to yank the preamp - the MFD pickup is so hot it definitely does not need any kind of preamp boost. With that in mind, I would personally not place an MFD in the Rick neck position because of the output, of course YMMV. I do like it in the bridge position, sounds great and balanced split and has a huge humbucker sound too. Can’t compare it to a T40, don’t own one.
I prefer very simple controls on my basses so both the T40 and the G&L wiring schematics are way over the top for me - just my .02. I’ll probably rewire this bass with a 3 way toggle and VV.

If you already have several basses with Ric pickup positions, maybe look for some other pickup position/positions that you have not done?
Might be great or might be not so great, but it will be different.

This is my 1994 USA Peavey Fury, purchased last Saturday. I've wanted one for years but they have been impossible to find in my area. The tone and playability is... fantastic.

The image from my original post was hosted on photo bucket and got disappeared. I can’t edit the post so, here it is again. The only one of the pair that I still have is the bottom one. It has recorded countless times and is my #1 bass. Be it ever so humble, it still feels like home. Other basses have come and gone. This one will always be mine.

Some of the nicest G&L basses are single pickup basses.
@XsoGol ...Maybe a single MFD in the Ric bridge spot and then some fancy tone control options?

Nice Gen 3 Fury...but I like the top one (Gen 2) so much better.

The top one has a fatter neck. The lower one has a jazz neck. Also, the body is larger on the top one. You can see it if you look closely. The lower one is more resonant and lighter weight. Just a personal preference.

I had the twin to the lower one, I temporarily had a t20 neck on it and the body neck combination felt just like my 82 Fender 57 AVRI, perfect!

Had to sell the Fury but did so with the intent of getting another someday, cuz it was perfect : )

But yes, the stock jazz type neck is amazingly good, fast, and easy.

I will chime in some opinions.
I'm sure single coil and parallel mode on the "Large Humbucker MFDs" would sound pretty cool in the Ric spots and not be too hot. If they are, they turn down nicely.
The typical MFD humbucker, as mentioned before, is hot! Series mode: hot. Parallel mode: less hot. Single mode: pretty nice! However, that is by design. The point was to make a passive pickup that was as aggressive, wide bandwidth, hot, 'modern' sounding as an active pickup--with the volume and tone controls maxed. Roll back the volume and tone controls a touch, and they are now sweeter, vintage output type pickups. Pretty cool.
TBH, the single coil Super Ferrites (on both the bass and guitar) are very similar to the MFD vibe, turn them up and they are aggressive and bite, turn them down a touch, and they are sweet.
G&L tends to place their MFDs in mostly the standard CLF spots: the L1000 has one right in the P bass sweet spot. The L2000 finds them pretty much in the J spots (as does the 1st Gen SB2). The Kiloton (and Climax and L1500) has it's pickup just a touch bridgeward from a Stingray. The Ric spots are uncharted MFD zone, but I'm sure they will work great, as MFDs have clarity for days.

I only have one G&L and it's a beaut! 84 El Toro. It's like the L2000 met a Jazz bass. It uses pickups that were only found in the long discontinued El Toro and Interceptor basses--a "Small Humbucker MFD" wired in series. They sound awesome both active and passive. I did a little mod to my preamp so passive mode is the same volume as active mode.

The 1983-1989 necks feel the best to me on the Fury, Foundation, Foundations S, Dyna and Patriot.
I prefer the Gen 1 & 2 Fury body shape to most bass bodies (from any brand).
The top one has a three ply pickguard with a shape I like better.
The Gen 3 bodies were pretty good too but they changed a bit from year to year, I like some versions better than others.
I like the tuners better on their earlier basses, they were a bit heavier but they sure turn smooth and they're really durable.

That is my favorite neck size/shape.
If I was going to buy a Fender bass... that is the neck I want, wide nut width and a shallow neck front to back.
I have a Patriot neck here that is the wide/shallow shape, it's great.
My Yamaha Attitude necks are that shape, they feel so good.
