OK so I received my 89-90 fury today. It came literally 15 min before I had to leave for practice. I could not wait to get there and try it out. It did not dissapoint and now I know why you guys all say these are p-bass killers. In 20+ years of playing I have never picked up a bass and had that yeah this is the one feeling. Always had to work a bass into my groove. I guess that's the easiest way to explain it. Tonight I got that feeling 30 seconds into the first song. Felt like I had played this bass for years. I have found my bass finally and am glad I sold my fender. With that being said can I get a number please? Willtry to post some pics at work tomorrow. I also have to wonder how many other jams, gigs and shows this bass has seen.
Here are a few pics of my new to me Fury. I used to hate on Peavey basses, but now am playing a different tune. Best P-Bass I have ever owned. I was surprised when I took the pickguard off, 250 K pots and solid wiring to boot. It shows its age quite well, but plays like "butta". Sorry for the cell phone pictures but I cant find my camera anywhere.
That's exactly what mine looked like before I refinished it. It is a sweet playing bass, no doubt.
Yes it truly is a sweet bass. I also have my Ibanez on the block right now because I have a line on another Fury. The guy is holding it for me.
As far as your refinishing job. It has to be one of the best threads ever. I read the entire thing the day I purchased this beauty. I had planned on doing the same to mine but I am kinda digging the battle damaged look now.
One question when you stripped yours was the body more than one piece of wood?
I kept the '83 Foundation with its battle damage. It seems to look right with the scars of life on it. The Fury was purchased specifically so I learn how to refinish.
It was a three, maybe four, piece body. Had to look very hard to see one of the seams, the other was obvious.
And you are a glutton for punishment if you read that whole thing. A lot of rambling as I wandered through the learning process and waffled about what I wanted.
I have another Fury stripped and ready go out in the garage, but my compressor gave up and I've been working on getting an '83 Suzuki GR650 back on the road. Soon as I can stop spending money on parts, I'll start saving up for a compressor.
The one on the garage has maple caps top and bottom with poplar in between. Thinking blackburst, but not sure yet. No hurry, as always.

As far as I can tell mine is three pcs. You can see the lines through the paint for the most part. When I bought it was worried that it might be plywood. I took the pickguard off and began to gouge the pickup route until I was sure it wasn't plywood. It looked to be the same wood as in your thread (poplar). I am very relieved now.
Edit: Blackburst is a very nice choice. I think the only burst I would go with. That's just me though.

I went to an open blues jam near where I live over the weekend. There were a number of bass players that played. The first one up had one of the new Fender Blacktop basses - the one with a Jazz body and 2 P-style pickups. There was a higher-end Ibanez SR, I think, a BC Rich very metal-looking bass, and, the bass that sounded the best out of all of them, to me, a Peavey Dyna Bass (with Super Ferrite pickups).
Out of all of them, (all playing through the same rig), the Peavey was not the loudest, but yet I could hear it the best of them all. No matter where the guy was playing, I could hear it cutting through clearly. So nice.... Thank you, Hartley Peavey!!

some of the imports were ply... nothing to be worried about.. Many of the recording requests I receive are from a ply import.
Can I get a number please?
I just snagged a Peavey G-Bass from a local dealer, it's pearl white. I love this thing. My first bass ever was a T-40 that weighed at least a ton and actually had a little green on the wood, like it was carved straight from a huge maple just after removing the bark
