After getting the Mill 5 yesterday, I figured it was time for a current family pic!

If I missed anyone, please let me know.

Sorry for the delay in giving out numbers lately. I was busy moving. Then the cable company lost the appointment to move my internet service and it took a week to get internet at the new house. Then the hard drive with the member list crashed and I had to rebuild the member list from posts and email. Hopefully all is good now.

Hello.

Chances are that Stuart is describing the stealth black Fury.

The issue with some Fury is the glue that holds the magnet on dries up and gives way. The Bart HiA was swapped in it's place partially due to vanity (no pole pieces) and partly due to the quality.

Some parts are interchangeable... the tuners are commodty (takes a while to figure out what the base plate and hole size are)... the pickups.... the bridge and pickguard are peavey only.

Note on pickguards, that there are about 6 different variations... I bought the guard from Pickguard heaven... took about 8 weeks to build (sent tons of pix).. I "should" have mailed them my current guard

The bridge is peavey only... it took me about 18 months to find a factory black one..

I'd stack a quality fury against any Fword any time....

NOTE... it's common for fury to have bowed necks... be careful... they were notoriously over tuned and never played.

The "street" price for a black/maple fury was $250

--And yes... Stuart is a cool guy-- Only reason I sold it is the lack of strings (I normally play 6 and 7)

Hope this helps someone.

T.

Yes, and yes.

My Fury is awesome. But, I admit that I bought it already having an aftermarket pickup installed. From what others have posted, it seems that some people are totally happy with the stock pickup in their Fury and others prefer to replace the pickup with something else. I don't know if that's because some years had better pickups than others, or if it's just down to the owner's taste.

Fortunately, P pickups are pretty cheap and the Fury will take any regular aftermarket replacement (as far as I know).

If you played one and liked it, then $199 seems like a pretty cheap price to pay, for a good quality, made in America bass.

I'm just giving a little attention to my wonderful 'new' Fury (split pickup model). It looks to me like the pickups are a little low, but I've only set up guitars before and so am no judge. Can anyone give me a ballpark idea?

The tone when I plugged it is is great but a little 'shy' I think......

Thanks. Any advice appreciated!:D

I fooled around and accidentally posted these in the Cirrus Club the other day. I've had many Peavey basses through the years, a T-40, Foundation, Foundation S, Foundation Fretless, a Patriot and a Forum. The koa Unity on the left I bought new in 1992. I replaced the original Schaller pickups with Seymour Duncans when I was playing full time in the mid to late '90's. I used to get many requests to leave my Fenders at home and play the Unity on the job. The charcoal Unity on the right is a recent purchase, got it off the 'bay dirt cheap. It's in nice shape to be the age it is, but the electronics were toast and had to have new pots and an Orange Drop installed. Still tweaking the neck a little, may have new pups put in after I play out with it a time or two. Can I have a number?

So I *finally* got the right tool to adjust the neck on my super ferrite fury, and now that I've got the action to a playable state, I can't take my hands off of her. I don't even notice the neck width that initially threw me off. I also made a replacement truss rod cover from an old dvd case that turned out alot better than I expected.

Even though I've had this bass for a couple months now, I feel like I can finally get to know it. This thing is a mean machine, especially with the Dean Markley Helix SS strings i put on it. It looks pretty great too (strings have black silks, compliments the headstock phenomenally), but thats just icing on the cake ;)

Got here quicker than I thought! This thing is in immaculate condition, it may as well have been NOS. Its a little heavy, but that's par for the course. The tone is very, very clear. Clearer than any of my other basses. I had missed having a bass with a pre, and this one's is hitting it home for me. I love the sensitivity. I also thought the 1.7" nut would be a little much for me, but its actually a pretty comfy neck. As for the tone, its a pretty good sound. Especially for being through my dinky walmart practice amp. Taking it to ensemble rehearsal tomorrow, so should have a more accurate representation of tone there. I think she's a keeper, but i have 30 days to know. And without further ado, my Forum!

Really didn't think I'd like the black/rosewood, but I have to say, its pretty classy :)

Congrat! That thing is in great shape. I have one that some modifications done before I got it, but I love mine. Of course, it was my first electric. I'm beginning the process of making it my main player with some more mods.

I've been meaning to ask those of you who have ever played one about the pre in it. I think it was one of the things that were modded. Instead of working like a 2 band, the three knobs are more like volume/extra volume/tone with little response. The volume knob only makes it about half as loud as it will get. When the extra volume is rolled off it is very trebly, and it adds low end as is adds volume. The bass knob almost functions as normal but with very little response.

Any ideas?

I just bought a peavey foundation with the SF pickups from the TB classifieds. I got it thinking it would be my backup bass but I love the sound and playability so much, it has replaced my Ibanez sr800. :bassist:

Only things I don't love about it:
1 - weight. I bought a superwide strap to spread the weight out. So I'm good there. :smug:

2. - single coil hum. I'm a bit OCD about hiss/static/noise in my signal. I am considering shielding to reduce/eliminate the hum.

Anyone care to share their experience with shielding a single coil bass? Worth it or not so much?

*edited because Dropbox link didn't work, and no pics, no bass.

Can I get a number?

BobD

BobD, Congrats!

I'm curious, if the bass is in the 8 lb. range, or do you think it would weigh in over 9 lbs.?

Are you able to compare the hum to the output on the Ibanez? That would aid the comparison considering environmental elements in the equation.
